Excellent nutrition advice Mike. That's about the best and most honest I've heard. The key, as you said, is to consider our evolutionary history and what we ate for 1000s of years before modern dietary habits. The only thing I'd add is the effect on brain chemistry of eating 'comfort foods'. If it makes you feel good, you're triggering certain neuro-transmitters just like taking narcotics, and it causes your brain to shut down receptor-sites for 'pleasure-chemicals', which is pretty much the definition of addiction. That leads to feeling bad as a baseline. I think a lot of 'depression' is really a side-effect of over-indulging in pleasure activities. If you're disciplined and lead an austere life regarding life's 'pleasures', your brain opens up all of those receptors and you feel great as a baseline. Trouble is, when you're in the grip of addiction, your judgement is so poor that it's nearly impossible to make the right choices, so it locks people in.
