Chandler has a 2/3 record in the UFC.. He has beaten Tony, which was on his way out, and Dan, who was in a similar boat. He hasn't beaten any of the top 5 guys, already losing to 3 of them. PPV numbers doesn't mean you deserve a title shot, and it shows how curated some of these guys' careers are.. At this point, you'd have to be blind not to see it. Makhachev vs Gamrot is an interesting fight on paper, but Gamrot can't finish Makhachev on the feet, and if the fight goes the full distance, Makhachev is winning 100%. What do you want him to do after that ? You want to see him fight a 38 year old Chandler ? You want him to fight Oliveira after tht piss poor performance he had vs Arman ? leon vs Islam would be an awesome fight. I know they've sparred already but that was before islam could strike and before leon could grapple. I personally think it'd be a competitive fight but leon would come out ontop. he's proved himself to be a very competent grappler and is easily the better striker. he's also the much bigger fighter and leon likes smaller opponents so I don't think islam will be able to throw him around as easily as people he's fought before. all in all it'd be a great fight

There is something wrong with this division because islam vs charles 2 did not happen due to Oliviera injury . But islam took on alex volkanovski and beat him . Second jsutin was supposed to fight islam but ramadan came and justin took on halloway and lost his contender position. Dustin got this fight because of defeating yiung , hungry, upcomer of bsd . So islam could be right and wrong due to all these things happend. The division is probably the best in ufc but something is wrong with it's schedule, injuries and when ever new contenders come into the top five they are stopped by either dustin , Charles or justin .

I mean Islam has only beaten Oliveira and Tsarukyan, and Tsarukyan is a long time ago, so it warrants a rematch, especially with Tsarukyan at nr. 1 currently. Islam hasn't beaten Gaethje, but granted, Gaethje just lost and is out for a minute. Mateusz Gamrot is there as well, good fighter and in the top 5. Rematch with Oliveira, which was supposed to have happened before an injury anyway, is right there, even though he lost to Tsarukyan. So beat Poirier, fight Tsarukyan, rematch Oliveira (if Oliveira is in the win column at that point), and at that point someone new is probably there to fight anyway, the divisions grow.

All bickering over details aside I think the main disconnect here is that as fans we have a much different perspective than he does. We see title fights as an interesting and exciting thing, because it's a challenger taking on the champ, but as the champ he doesn't look at it as a challenge, because he is defending. A challenge would be going for another belt, fighting another champion. That is going to be more exciting for the fighter than just defending their belt. Fans are happy to see a champ defend for years but I can understand why, now that it has become a viable option, fighters want to win a title and then they want to win another title.
