i had a friend in high school who ended up doing this. so strange because in school he was a very quiet, reserved, and super nice guy. After high school he joined the Marines, then after that did this medieval fighting. Dude is still very nice and I still can’t imagine him doing this or being a Marine.

Actually, the 600 vs 600 is recreating an old Russian tradition to resolve disputes e.g. between two villages. They have a term for that - "stenka na stenku" which in translation means "wall vs wall". Equal numbers of men from both villages meet in the field and have the dispute resolved in fist fight. Currently, the Russian football hools are keeping this tradition alive along with its code - you don't hit a downed enemy and you don't use weapons or tools.

I am a current world Champion in Buhurt, the medieval mma/combat sport featured here. This is a separate sport from MMA, but often is compared because there aren't many similar things around these days. Look up Buhurt, or Medieval Combat USA to find a team or crew. You can legit travel the world doing this sport. Also the guy in armor whi takes knee in the axe fight was like, 54 yrs old lol

Fun fact. Late period medieval armor was actually much lighter than people think and had a high level of mobility. Swords were also never used in big battles because they are a terrible weapon despite what video games and movies say
