Anyone who argues USD hyperinflation (presumably due to QE) needs to address Steven van Metre's argument that QE is actually deflationary since the additional currency units are held in escrow at the fed and dollar demand increases to pay interest on additional debt

BTC maxis are interesting. He makes a great analogy on how cellphones went from clunky to powerful and easy but then instead of speaking to the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem he says bitcoin is similar. The analogy works if you compare cell phone evolution and adoption to the entire cryptocurrency space where better technology is being used by newer and more innovative blockchains but bitcoin is stuck on proof of work with nakamoto consensus. That's the equivalent of those brick cellphones. Saying bitcoin is getting better in a vacuum might be true, but it is so far behind so many other networks now.

But they aren't decentralized like bitcoin is. Three mining pools running more more 51% is more than enough. Stop acting like proof of stake is secure. Anyone can just buy up the coins and control the whole system unlike bitcoin where you can buy a bunch of asics and run the system. All these altcoins can do is lame stuff like NFTs and smart contracts dapps decentralized voting. Boring 😴 bitcoin let's you send a coin to someone in a couple of days and that's all you need everything else is a shit coin. Dont worry about the hashrate it takes to run this thing either it's not wasted energy if it's renewable right ? Why would I want to buy a coin if I known who the creator is of course the very first version of a brand new technology always ends up being the best version there is. Anyways I'm so glad we use all this electricity to create a decentralized blockchain that I use a centralized l2 to use. Doesn't get better than that

I used TCP/IP in 1995. Guess what you are using in 2021 on your smartphone? TCP/IP. BeOS was a superior technology OS in 1999, it went out of business in a few years. Linux was around in the early 1990s. Guess what runs in the background on your smartphone and all the servers. Altcoin n00bs claim to know about "new technology". They know nothing about computer history.

Bitcoin can be surveilled. Gold does the same thing. The value of bitcoin comes from fiat currency the same as gold. It’s a speculative investment and not a currency. It’s a nice to think bitcoin will be a path to financial liberation until you take two seconds to think about it.

Bitcoin has an unsustainable security model and will likely implode in the next decade or two. The simple fact is that nothing of interest is being built on Bitcoin and the entire culture of Bitcoin maximalism encourages long-term holding in cold wallets. If there isn't any utility outside of a savings account (which IS NOT a hedge against hyperinflation, BTC is a full blown risk asset), then transaction fees will never meaningfully grow. Without transaction fees being paid by users, the entire security budget for BTC is derived from BTC block rewards. Unless the price of bitcoin doubles every halving, the security budget is in fact diminishing and it becomes increasingly easy to attack the network. We already see the incredible rate of hashpower consolidation as smaller miners are driven out of business.
