Each unit of fiat money represents a loan that someone received for promising to move things forward. The value of a currency represents the value of those promises. And we’re doing pretty well compared to the times when actual metal coins dominated the scene. The progress humanity has made over the last 300 years is a miracle of institutional collaboration. In contrast, the creation of a bitcoin represents just a loss of resources and a lack of confidence in our ability to give a promise and hold on to it.

I cannot stand the idea of low transaction fees for remitence when the exchange rate of bitcoin to fiat is, by far, the most expensive and cumbersome
@TomHinueber9 жыл бұрын
Jose Amaya typically it's 1% wire transfers hover around 10% so yes bitcoin will have a huge effect on the 500 billion remittence market.
@nederhoed9 жыл бұрын
Jose Amaya this will be a non-issue once the receiving party can buy products with the incoming bitcoins. Once small economies arise around bitcoin, this trend will set in.

Actually, the value stored on the Bitcoin blockchain can't be secured if the price of a bitcoin drops too low, as miners will drop out, and the cost of the equipment necessary to carry out a successful attack on the network is dependent on how high a hash rate it must compete with. So, if the Bitcoin blockchain succeeds, the price of bitcoin will be higher. You might say that a different blockchain technology could take Bitcoin's place, but even that is a tough sale, given Bitcoin's head start, network effect, and hashing power relative to its competitors.

Here is the problem with the blockchain (if I understand it correctly): Let's say I'm a government that doesn't want this Bitcoin competition. I set up a HUGE bank of supercomputers to do nothing but generate micro-transactions and thus adding to the blockchain data at light speed. What was once a manageable rate of data then becomes a supernova of data and plugs up the system. Someone please explain why that should not be a concern.
@MrGreatsuccess8 жыл бұрын
+earthpet it costs fees to do transactions with Bitcoins. So basically you pay for the miners to clear your transaction. Sending huge amounts of transactions in the network would only ruin you and feed the Bitcoin-economy.
@LiebeGruesseКүн бұрын
Nobody can explain this to you, cause that _is_ a valid flaw. Blockchain is neither democratizing anything, nor is it by any means anonymous. It would be easy for any state or big corporation with enough computing resources to hijack the network. The normal participants pay an oligopoly of few miner networks to waste energy just to avoid collaborating with institutions.

Say what you want about Bitcoin, but a decentralized currency that has been booming and fluctuating recently? It won't go away. Also given the fact that the blockchain won't go away as well, and the amount of bitcoins depend on whether people mine them or not. I don't see big companies accepting them any time soon due to the fact of long standing relations with other payment alternatives, but I believe Bitcoin will save the small business industry.

My concern is that its an energy currency, which is something Thomas Edison theorized. But we already have an issue with energy in our economy. This is we are trying get an fossil energy to a renewable one. It all makes sense thou.

I think as it stands bitcoin is and was successful due to the anonymity of it and the use of the currency on the black market for drugs. Without some serious use of the coin it becomes worthless and seeing not many big players accept bitcoin yet most of the transactions were through the silk road! I'm no expert I like to give my 10¢
