@@Serhiy_fM I've hated all this 'respect' for the SEC and regulations and government since the beginning. Crypto is beyond nationalism, state governments, and laws because Bitcoin is a self-governing and self-organizing secure system that eliminates the very need for such institutions. It's not UP TO THEM to decide for everybody else in the world whether using BTC for whatever purpose is legal. People are so blind and lacking in courage and wisdom to know that you do not need permission to live your life and transact value by whatever medium facilitates the transfer best. Bitcoin is for those wise enough to know opportunity when it smashes them in the face. It enables everything you've ever wanted in government, but without the people to corrupt the process of allocation of resources and judgement, because bitcoin cannot lie, it rewards those smart, and punishes those stupid in the most brutal yet fair way finally available to everyone with a connection to the internet. The internet was the precursor to the real revolution and renaissance that is Bitcoin. A promethean gift of the gods, Bitcoin delivers the promise of freedom and prosperity to those intelligent enough to realize what it is. Bitcoin is an intelligence test.

It is not a thing to be conquered or taken or won, for freedom is not a privilege but a right, an intrinsic inalienable right. I don't care what happens with governments or who tries to outlaw or criminalize bitcoin, because nothing is more powerful a transformative elixir for a sick humankind than an idea whose time has come. The more they try to destroy bitcion the more expeditiously they attract their own inevitable demise. I crave nothing less than the total destruction of the empire of the US dollar. Bitcoin I have complete faith and trust in. Bitcoin is the turning of the page of the ages.

Andres is you could answer me, what makes bitcoin special? You mentioned a fixed issuance currency, but haven't we've seen several forks of Bitcoin, essentially issuing more digital currency that is nearly identical in terms of their qualities as a medium of exchange? If one Bitcoin becomes worth $10 per satoshi why wouldn't I switch to BCH if it was $0.01 per satoshi? It seems like like everybody and their brother are creating a new currency, so would this not be a form of unchecked inflation similar to your example of the euro?

I know I'm not Andreas, but let's think it through. In the price scenario that you outlined, if BCH is only 1/1000th the price of bitcoin, then it would mean it only have roughly 1/1000th the security of bitcoin (since mining power will follow profits) - therefore it would be easy to double spend BCH, which would actually make it a very poor medium of exchange.

But, the thing that will unfortunately never happen is that we will ask "how much is a USD in bitcoin". - Please understand that cryptocurrency (not that bitcoin should be thrown into that bucket anyway) are an intermediary step to Money over IP. What Biitcoin did is split money and currency. The former is language the latter is technology.

Money and currency have always been split; the one is a store of value and the other isn't. So far, so good for BTC in that dept. So far, so bad for USD and all other fiat currencies though...

@@doctahj2475 Commodity money combined money and currency ('fiat' is neither money nor currency - it is 'legal tender'; 'Federal Reserve NOTES etc.'). -- The difference is that now you can use Bitcoin to send ether (see: ABRA!) and you can use Ethereum to send bitcoin.

Newbie here. Quick question.. what if the (halving) of the blockchain reward (mining) every 4 years got so low that it wasn't worth it to mine. would the network come to a halt? Who would be willing to mine if those half cuts out paced the price rise? what if it became non beneficial to mine BTC?

There are 2 sources of rewards for miners: new coins and transaction fees. The long term plan from the start is to transition to transaction fees as the primary incentive for miners so that even when new coin reward falls towards zero, miners would still want to earn the transaction fees.

There are countries crying out for CryptoCurrency Now! So will they wait until BTC is ready? No they won't and are not. This is not a novelty for these people whose national currency is almost useless. AA is really good but is on the dogmatic side imo and has a blind spot on certain aspects of user adoption.

He misses the big point: They're mutually incompatible not because the system can't handle the transactions, but because rising prices for a currency DISCOURAGES spending and investing. Why spend your bitcoins today, if they'll be worth 10% more in a month or a year? Why start a business or invest in a business? Where does your paycheck come from, if nobody is spending or investing? The economy is a circuit that loops back on itself, not a linear pipeline. Currency or investment. Choose one. You can't have both. What's good for one is bad for the other, and vice versa.

Bitcoin doesn't work as hedge against inflation atm, because of its volatility. Sadly. You have to speculate that the value increases in the future, otherwise bitcoin is more like an oven where one can burn his fiat.

Bitcoin is no longer sound money and will be inflated and ruined in the near future. This is because it's not scalable, has high transaction fees. A commodity has to have utility, it can't just be a store of value. BTC will go the way of other fiat, becoming mainly IOU's as people use Lightning and other intermediaries (like banks) to use it. BCH is the way to go because you can be your own bank. Satoshi's original vision.
