“Fun and educational” more like money grab. Same marketing style you’ll see from NFTs. 60 year old ladies becoming interested in bitcoin because of trading card packs is moronic use-case. Lost respect for Ian for promoting this. “Raging capitalist” to a fault, apparently.

I agree its unlikely for 60 year olds to be interested , but this is more akin to a bitcoin childrens book for education which I think is fine. Parents could give these to children as gifts . Claiming "super rare" in their marketing is misleading to say the least however

For one, I literally make no money from this beyond the couple of ads I have running by default across all my content 😂 Even our partnership with BTC Trading Cards is still a free trial at this stage. So it must be nice to be able to make unfounded claims as an anon on the interwebs. I always welcome differing opinions. Yours differs from the thousands of people who have found this project as a cool way to collect bitcoin art that is meaningful to them. If you're against that, I'm not really sure what to say. Yet I wish to remain anonymous for legitimate reasons; if you think that’s worth criticizing, please go right ahead and criticize all of the other anon bitcoiners we know and love. Not everyone wants to be posing for KZbin thumbnails. I’ll say I appreciate some of your content and welcoming of different opinions. I think you’ve got it wrong here, but I’ve said my piece.

@@harlemsfinest One of our lead engineers at Joltz is anon, and as you should hopefully know from my 133 videos of content on this channel I have a deep appreciation for privacy and those who wish to maximally preserve it. My comment was to emphasize your unfounded assumption that I'm making money off this video (outside of the normal ads that I run on all my content) which is false. Such claims are easier to fling around from behind a mask - that's all. Hopefully you didn't make an unfounded claim and attack my character and expect me to not address it.

This post is a post for all those critics of Ian for promoting his first guest. Most Bitcoiners know what it is & where it’s going. Find another way of expressing your opinions without acting like the hacks on Facebook, Twitter & Tic Tok! Ian has a right to make a profit & monetize his channel any way he wishes. You can vote with your subscriptions (feet if you will). Decentralized cryptocurrency is a free market. Bitcoin maximizers should offer their criticisms in proactive ways! Appreciate that Wayne - I always welcome differing opinions and can genuinely appreciate some of the pushback noted here around pushing a "FOMO" narrative which certainly wasn't the intention. With that said, it's always strange to me that there are some out there who simply cannot accept the notion that people are free to make their own decisions. I also must have missed the part in this video where it was said that people should no longer stack sats but instead only buy these cards 🤷

When I read the title I cringed a bit 😬. Only because I see this as a VERY slippery slope. However, I respect your perspectives & am a fan of the channel, so I’m a check it out 👍🏾 If people have money to spare for speculation (i.e., all debts paid, kids taken care of, etc.,) go for it AFTER a very deep #DYOR dive. If not, #DCA into $BTC & #HODL. Stack $SATS & take a nap 😴

Appreciate the open mind! And I think this is great guidance - as you know, I would always echo the recommendation to stack sats whenever possible. At the same time, if this product can bring joy / knowledge about Bitcoin / etc. to someone or others they care about, then it could be worthwhile assuming they've got other obligations in order.

part of the problem is marketing this as a "rare" trading card game... if it wasn't marketed so much as being "scarce collectible" which really is not really honest for selling mass printed cardboard that can be reprinted , than it would just be a fun educational set of cards to give as a gift.

@@sanisidrocr sure, I’ll agree with that. The “limited run, so FOMO buy now” is my main problem with it. Also the creator claims that people think to themselves “I’ll never be a bitcoin whale” which is disingenuous… if he understood bitcoin he’d understand that a few hundred $ of bitcoin purchased at these prices will easily make someone a whale of the future. Any $ spent on these cards is a huge waste, compared to that.

I can see how you could interpret that comment as such. Having gotten to know the founder over the last few months though, I can tell you that I've never met a Bitcoiner more dedicated to the cause of increasing bitcoin (and bitcoin only) adoption. I think you guys are reading way too much into what is supposed to be a fun project to increase awareness for bitcoin.

That's good feedback - maybe "collectibility" is a better way to frame it vs. "scarcity". The intention here also wasn't to push some sort of FOMO narrative but rather highlight how impressive the traction has been to-date for Series 1. This project has captured something special whether some of you watching agree or not. I also think you guys are reading WAY too much into a fun project that's intended to increase awareness for bitcoin 😂

@@IanMajor I like the idea of the project but its being marketing as something it really isn't (no worse that magic trading cards but that isn't really a good goal IMHO) . These aren't one of a kind paintings or sculptures but mass printed pieces of cardboard. Would also be better to avoid profiling real individuals in the cards as most oracles/heroes become villians over time as well and its better to be skeptical and not trust personalities or spokespeople . I'm not trying to vilify you, just giving you my honest feedback. If you find any of this useful great.

18:44 “Orange pill people and reach the general public.” Educating the public through these trading cards is a great idea! Turn them on to learning more about Bitcoin and give them rewards. Don’t see anything wrong with expanding the Bitcoin community! These cards probably aren’t for everybody, but those people probably still own Pokémon and Magic cards which also weren’t for everybody during their time. Those fantasy cards also weren’t connected to something as great as Bitcoin. Excited to see what comes with your partnership Ian!

Magic the Gathering and similar trading cards are associated with a game that people can play. These have no game, and are more like baseball cards (that only people who already like baseball will choose to collect). No one buys baseball cards who doesn’t care about baseball yet wants to learn and “have fun.” This is a distraction from what really matters, converting fiat to bitcoin at the fastest possible rate. While crypto people are susceptible to this kind of thing, FOMOing for gainz, bitcoiners are not… the creators should expect blowback from the community, and it will be deserved.
