Bite-Sized: The Redis of BITS Pilani | An FMaC Production

Whether it’s a hot cup of tea in the morning or whether it’s the evening “Maggi and Mango shake”, the Redis of BITS Pilani are always here, filling the stomachs of hungry students for the past 60 years. The Film Making Club of BITS Pilani bring to you a deep dive into the lives and past of the iconic redis of the campus, which we have all learnt to love over the years.

Brought back fond memories of my years in Pilani when I haunted the corridors of Krishna Bhavan and later Malviya Bhavan, usually in a semi-hungry state! These Redis were the lifeblood of perpetually hungry BITS Students, especially when you wanted to forget the insipid mess food from time to time. In the 1974-80 timeframe, I remember that the stall that sold samosas, behind the Post Office and near the UCO Bank was particularly popular. PO Samosas have since then become the standard by which I evaluate samosas served at other places, all over the world. I am particularly touched by the fact that alumni and students contributed to the welfare of these redis during COVID times. And that the redis themselves acknowledge the help rendered. Honestly, we students owe them a lot more than what they owed us - they helped us, in their own small or big ways to make life a lot more memorable at Pilani.
