love the mix of the DMA kick and hi-hat with the unique sound of the YM2149. well done!

This sounds amazing! Was it composed using maxYMiser?

Perfect!

Is there a tutorial where you explain how you get a randoum snd(h) running in maxymiser? Like this e.g.?
@evldhsmisc11 ай бұрын
A random SNDH will not load into maxYMiser. The track needs to have been composed with it. SNDH is just a container format for different tracker formats/sound drivers.

@@evldhsmisc Thanks got that ... But e.g. the "the hippel tune that never was by mOdmate" link from demozoo comes in a zip file which contains NEVERWAS.SND. I can not successfully load this to MM V1.61 .... others work ... but not everyother I feel ...

The NEVERWAS.SND I can play with SND_PLAYER.PRG ... but not as nice as MM 🙂... so I can play it on the original MegaSTE

@@frankoberhoff7571mOdmate usually protect his released SNDH files so they can't be loaded back in the tracker. The reason I manage to record some of the protected SNDH's in maxYMiser is that either I get the original unprotected file from the author or I rip out the note datas and voice set by hand. In the case of neverwas I got the unprotected file from mOdmate.

What do you mean by PCM channel?
@przemekkobel487411 ай бұрын
Technically, digital sound on STe/TT/Mega STe is realized by a single stereo sound channel. Data is fed by DMA circuit, and a single word taken from memory (16 bits) contains one byte of data for left side's DAC, and one for right. Method of converting data to sound on this computer is known as PCM (essentially, each digital value is translated directly to a certain voltage level sent to Line Out). On Falcon this is further extended with more channels and more bits per channel, but all data for all channels is pulled from memory by DMA in a single data stream.

Technically the PCM sound is read by by the shifter chip, a few bytes each scanline, not the DMA IC. That's why there is absolutely no overhead when the PCM sound is playing. Unlike when the floppy disk and harddisk are using the DMA-chip. And it can also play mono (which is the case here in maxYMiser).

@@evldhsmiscDoesn't GST Shifter have DMA capabilities?
@evldhsmisc11 ай бұрын
@@przemekkobel4874 Yes of course it reads from memory by itself using the reserved half of the clock cycles so it won't affect the cpu. Unlike the actual DMA chip that will steal cycles when it works. Just wanted to point out that 1) it's not the DMA chip doing the work and 2) it can play mono too :)
@przemekkobel487411 ай бұрын
@@evldhsmisc 1) I never said it was done by "THE" DMA chip, 2) distinction between mono and stereo (where the difference between 50KHz stereo and 6 KHz mono is just few bits in few registers, maybe some CPU time for realtime pitch changes) isn't really worth arguing about.
