Always loved the soundtrack to this game. I believe the composer passed away after doing this game. It’s a shame he never made his mark. Guy was talented.

So after watching, I'm actually intrigued.. it looks fun, and you make some fair points about fetch quests, but those have never bothered me.. maybe I'll give this a spin later on in the year.. great video.

In the Japanese version of 7th Saga, the runes were called Arks originally

That's a good game...but it is super super super long. And if you do play, don't play each story one by one. You will miss out on some of the good gear. Also Aeon Genesis made a 2.0 and been dreading to try that.

@@Bitsandglory The OST is one of my favorites. Ryuji Sasai was the composer. He did Final Fantasy Mystic Quest to give you an idea. Very good composer. But you'll see...its long yes but some of the mecanics are ahead of its time.

A fair review, i think i enjoyed the most out of this game because I didn't expect 7th saga 2 and presentation music story made it me like it more. Id recommend playing lennus 2, its a sequel of paladins quest. The setting is an alien world so its similar to phantasy star.

Heh. More love to 7th Saga thanks to an inferior successor. :D Interesting though. I never knew that there was even supposed to be a sequel to 7th Saga, always believing it to be one of those "one-shot" games that 8-bit and 16-bit era-consoles were known to have. As soon as I saw gameplay footage, I could immediately recognize the DNA of the former game in this one. Shame it was only "meh" since it looks like it had a lot of potential. Thanks for the review of an obscure game I would never have known about otherwise, Bits! I may have to track down a copy of it and add it to my retirement bucket list though.

Honestly it is a bit disappointing to see so much 7th saga influence, but IMO, fall flat. I just honestly did not have a good time playing this one. But I don’t discourage anyone from trying, so if you get to it - let me know what you think!

The japanese version of 7th Saga (called "Elnard") is actually really easy, and plays a lot like Mystic Ark. When they brought it to America as the 7th Saga, they jacked up the difficulty.

Haha, I know. I played and covered the 7th Saga before Mystic Ark. I really liked the 7th Saga, despite the difficulty and localization issues. Mystic Ark though, not so much. Wasn’t a fan. Thanks for watching!

Agreed completely. This was one of the few games I played in the last few years where at times I had to force myself to continue on and took many day breaks in between. It's a shame. I love the 7th Saga and this game had a great coat of paint on it.

5 out of 10 huh? I won't lie, i have almost no memory of this game, so "Four"gettable is more accurate. If you want a few recommendations on next game to play....sorry if you already played them. Bahamut Lagoon Metal Max Returns Shin Megami Tensei IF Or if you want an Arpg, Gunmans proof also great way too kill some time. How did Nintendo not sue those people for stealing zelda assets??? Which ever game you play next, have a fun time.

Definitely all games that have been on my radar for years, but haven't gotten around to yet! But yeah, unfortunately Mystic Ark DID NOT do it for me. I think the tedium for me gets summed up in 2 areas where you fight the same enemy over and over like 10x in a row with no real advancement. Such weird implementation of ideas haha.

@@Bitsandglory yeah, good RPGs are hard to find, especially certain "sequels". Final Fantasy 2 is the poster child for this (the actual 2, not snes IV). It was cancelled too, but that level up system was so awful. Lucky Saga actually reworked it to make it much better. Well, Eiyuuden Chronicles got released, and I'm happy so far...well one hour in at least. Sometimes I feel that 2D in a 3d motif is oversaturated lately...thanks a lot octopath traveler.
