HTB boxes can go beyond the scope of OSCP in multiple cases. Like the insane and even some hard boxes can be harder than OSCP boxes. You should focus on medium and easy boxes usually, sometimes hoppin on some hard boxes won't either.

There are 2 ways to learn programming for hacking 1. To read code: For source code review, that practically has to be done on all major programming languages, JS, PHP, JAVA, Python, etc. Code complexity that you encounter can be of any extent so you cannot predict the extent of learning, you'll only know when you start reading, and research the unknowns as per requirement. 2. To write code: You can master any one of the popular ones that is easy to learn and faster in execution. Python, Go, Rust are good choices, python is the easiest to learn. In this case, most of the time you will need only basic concepts to create automation scripts, but I would say at least knowledge till OOPS.
