I am actually a legal immigrant and always found those American phrases/words cute. But I learned a hard lesson when I used them in California. Why would I call you dear when you are not, especially when people using such language only did so to control me and punish me and cut wounds deeper? I was 10 with a bladder larger than most adults, it took two bags of fluid shoved in for me to feel anything! The Golden Rule taught me that I don't like being hurt and twisted and conned by people Iiked hurting me and demanding compliance and false pretenses in public with false names, so I will not stoop to the same. Words have power, and I choose not to manipulate and lie about my affections, and I hope people like you can wake up to how awful people do use such notions to abuse and control. That doesn't mean you are, but to a beaten dog every raised hand is reason to cower. To every broken soul like me?
