Hello, bookbinding is a quiet and wonderful craft, and I like it very much. I want to ask you a question and I hope you can answer it. Do you rely on bookbinding as both an income and a craft? Is there a respectable income? Also, you are the best person to do this. I follow your videos all day long. You are creative. Thank you from Algeria.🇩🇿💛

Yes I rely on bookbinding and content creation full-time and it is a dream come true. The income is humble, still figuring out how to make a more comfortable living. I also have a partner. Thank you for your kind words 🫶🏼

Thank you Chanel, this was extremely helpful especially since I’m about to embark on a similar project. For months I’ve been trying to get up the nerve to begin a large wedding album for my best friend’s son and his about-to-be bride (they’re like family, so I feel it must be extra special and absolutely perfect). Earlier this year, I spent a lot of money on supplies for this project, sourcing from several bookbinding suppliers and from a specialty paper supplier in NYC when we went there in January. I went all-in as if money were no object. I must add that I carefully carried tubes around the city of what I hope will be the perfect Italian hot-press bright white watercolour paper for this album…if you’d seen me, you would have thought I was carrying irreplaceable antique documents or priceless art, lol. I also bought special glassine sheets to go in-between each page and photo corners. Anyway, although I’ve watched as many album making videos I could find, it wasn’t easy to find any for creating an old-school style album that could accommodate actual photographs (most don’t take into consideration of the space needed in between the pages), so thank so much you for this one❣️

What a wonderful project for your family. I'd be jittery about this if we're me -- even though I do my art for fun and for me. It's different when you're working on a wedding book or a book for family memories. Have you considered making small samples with various ideas to give yourself practice and to blunt the edge of jitters, if you have them. It gives family choices which can go many ways. In the final analysis, if you're happy, then that's it, that's all!

❤❤❤ Beautiful job as always! Lol I totally felt that errr with that second end paper gluing! I actually started to place a piece of masking tape or washi tape prior to gluing so that I knew exactly where the paper should be glued down on the case. I just close the book up how it should be and line up the tape on the inside overhang edges, it helped a lot taking out the guess work! That bit always gets me. 😂

and yess for scrapbooks i seen other artist made scrapbooks they leave much room between the signatures for adding more papers and stuff after book is finished. i tried one with a soft spine and pamhlet stich? if i say this right haha.. but the book became bulked after i put in tags and cards etc.. love your books!

This video has been so helpful to binding my first album! Question, did you make the spine shoulder gaps any wider than a typical blank notebook? Not sure if it being an album that expands makes any difference. I have your book and have been using the masking tape method to pre-test the gap length, maybe that’s all I need for an album too. Just wondered if you had any thoughts on this, thanks for all you do!!

Ok, so I still have some trouble with casing in and have tried about 4 different methods at this point. I feel like the way you do it makes a ton of sense, but it was a critical fail for me both times I tried (once with PVA which basically ruined everything... another time with paste where I had to put it down and re-do about 4 times). I am wondering how you are able to pull this method off... Like I think to me it looks like you are just having the text block pushed all the way into the spine and eyeballing what it looks like in terms of distance from the four edge of the book to the board and then when you paste it down putting it in that spot. When I have tried to do that, most of the time I end up with the paper stretching more than I anticipated and then there is puckering at the hinge. How do you deal with this other than just knowing how much each paper tends to expand/using paper that doesn't stretch much when glued?

As for the red balloon--it is a reminder of nice hopes and dreams, which we can capture and float away up in the sky like a magical hot air balloon and that famous little move called the red balloon. Best.
