Nice to see the British army bivvi bag in use, I used mine at the weekend. Little tip, if the weather is bad. Put the bag face down, then you can use the hood bit as a rain cover. Regards JB. 👍

You reminded me of all of the times that I had to do just that....sleep/stay in a bivvy bag, while in the US Infantry....while it was raining. We had a woobie, a bivvy, and a closed cell foam mat....sometimes, we had our green patrol sleeping bag. I also sometimes had to use my military emergency space blanket, that I got from one of our medics. Thank you for the memories, Brother !!! Keep up the great work !!!

I use the XL size of the 2Gosystems trifecta, a reflective tyvek bivy, With an 'envelope" around it, made of two taped together 55 gallon drum liners, a hammock and ridgeline thru the bivy and another ridgeline thru the envelope, it lets me sleep ok at 40F in just cammies. shemagh, gloves, 3 pairs of sock liners, unlaced shoes, balaclava, , laying on my daypack and buttpack, in the hammock, With the two 1/2 lb each Amazon camo nets and the 2 amazon 1/4 lb each bugnet "suits', all worn as longjohns, I can sleep ok at 30F, in the wind. That's pretty good, for kit that only weighs 5 lbs. There's a third drumliners, some cordage, some tape, 4 stakes and a 3x4 ft oval of clear PEVA shower curtain (wallys) The packs get emptied out and stuffed with debris. The packs add 2.5 lbs and the miscellaneous 'extra' clothing totals 1.5 lbs. I had to add a thicker, wider belt to the buttpack. The hip pads are my spare boxer shorts and T shirt. The spare sock liners are my shoulder pads. I truly do hate every sq in and oz of crap I have to lug around, so I make everything serve at least 2 purposes. I dont need a sleeping pad, sleeping bag, tent, poncho, rainsuit, or heavy clothing. All of this sleep-shelter gear is usable in hot weather. It's all wearable as clothing and none of it is affected by its getting wet. Except for the balaclava, all of the clothing "extras" are needed in hot weather and the balaclave can be stuffed with debris or unused clothing and used as a pillow. If I stuff debris between the bugnet suits and in between the wraps of the camo nets, I can sleep ok at 20F. If I had hot rocks or hot water bottles to the foot box of the bivy, I can sleep ok at 10F, for 2-3 hours, at least. A discrete Dakota fire pit will heat up those items, if the ground is not yet too hard frozen to dig such a pit.

Liking that Bivi Bag with a drawstring. I have the US Army ( no face cover or vents) and the Marine with screen over the face ( both gortex) but both are not ideal without a tarp. Or at least your rain coat over them. So I always carry some sort of tarp. I guess a bedroll pre assembled is not a good picture for stealth looks on the outside of a pack??

@Mat-kr1nf3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, it’s a difficult one, if you let one person, then what about the other person who also presents themselves in a good light. I got turfed off a local area, he was very nice about it. He said they get kids having big bonfires, leaving loads of bottles and cans, he can’t let one person and say no to others- he could see I was just sitting, doing my thing, carving a wooden spoon, under my tarp lean to. I can see his problem, what about the next person he finds who is also a reasonable person, and so on. If you have a rule, you have to keep to it in those circumstances. Having said that, I still go back. What gets me about it is, I’ve been going there 30 years or more, it was a couple of 20 year old busy bodies who grassed me up, and that was after I’d had the good grace to direct them through a very muddy patch so they could go on their way! Should have let them struggle up to their ankles in mud!🤬🤬🤬
