'It's Oh So Quiet' is actually a cover of a cover. The original was a German song that then was translated into English and recorded by Betty Hutton in 1951. After over forty years, Björk then covered the English version of the song, and the rest is history.

I’ve been a fan since debut. Early 90’s music was a lot about experimenting. Electronic music started to blend in with mainstream and pop music. Björk was definetly a pioneer. Listen to the song Björk wrote the song Bedtime story that Madonna recorded for her album. Sweet Intuition is almost like a demo version of Madonna’s song.

That’s really cool, didn’t know that and it makes sense with Bjork’s popularity why she’s so revered in the experimenting music world. But didn’t know the 90s was all about experimenting and trying things out but looking at some of the movies, it kinda make sense

@@elvideoentertainment I was very much into this type if music, like Massive Attack, Portishead, Faithless, Basement Jaxx, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy etc. bands that all came from the UK, but Daft Punk and Air were coming up in France, and Missy Elliot and Timbaland were doing simular things in US alrhough different genre. Björk will always have a special place in my heart because of her originality and artistry. But when she gets really experimental I can’t really do a full album🙈 Debut, Post, Homogenic, Vespertine and Vulnicura are all easy on the ears in my opinion. The other albums are brilliant and conceptual but no very accessible for my ears. Looking forward to see how the albums land with you.🙏🏽

I highly recommend taking the time to watch the music videos for some of these songs! It just adds a whole other layer of admiration and depth to Björk and her artistry. Maybe like a two part livestream like how you reacted to Lana Del Rey’s stuff.

6:23, I was aware of her existence, but I only truly discovered Björk's music when she had just released "Homogenic." After sticking to it for a literal month, listening to it day and night, I eventually became curious about "Post" and "Debut." "Homogenic" felt experimental to me back then, and I thought the house vibes in "Debut" were really uncommon for pop. I never really liked house music, but I loved "Debut." However, "Post" did not feel too experimental to me, in the sense that techno and trance were everywhere at that time. What was different about her was that, to me, she seemed to be the only one who managed to incorporate this genre into pop music without making it sound cheap. I have to add, though, that many good songs remained unnoticed by most people. In fact, despite her hits and popularity, I never knew anybody who considered her "mainstream." Many of my friends didn't even know a single song other than "Human Behaviour" and "Army of Me," and a few of them maybe knew "Bachelorette." After "Homogenic," she kind of dropped out of the public perception even more. Probably because her level of experimentation had reached a point where it was no longer easily digestible. :)

I remember exactly when 'Post' came out in '95. I also remember that I was never really into techno music back in the 90's. 'Hyperballad' was the only song that was the closest and coolest I got into electonic music back then. It builds up amazing and I love the lyrics. This album is pure magic!

The remix- I Miss You (Dobie Rub Part One-Sunshine Mix) so good. I loved this track back in the day, and found it again couple years ago and still so good. And yes this was innovative music back then, people might have thought this 'weird' back then, I loved her bc it made me feel seen as a teen. I listened to all kinds of music back then, and was also into night dancing (rave type) and beats, house etc.. (she dated Goldie and Tricky so must of influenced each other) so I appreciated her music for that too. some people just need innovative, authentic music in their life. This is a nice revisit (I haven't listened to Bjork as much in the last 20 years, I'm always listening to new music,, she has so many beautiful tracks.

Nothing... exactly like...to consider the musical landscape of an era than to be proud and not unproud of one's age. You don't get to choose when you're born. I was born in a year when the atrocities of Vietnam were finally grinding down but, when I was about 16, this "unheard of" international musician put this album out did change ideas about music and the human condition (whether the latter was her intention or not)...that's a one-woman revolution & her artistic vision is alive & well, today.

Even though this vid is almost a year old. I'd like to respond to the "what was it like hearing this for the first time in1995" question. A lot of Bjork reaction vids ask this, and there's really an easy way to understand what it was like. Listen to Bjork's most recent album. That "what am I listening to? It's good, but weird as f@ck" is very much the same reaction folks had to this. So yeah, just listen to whatever her latest album is, and you'll understand how far out her stuff sounded in the 90's. In many countries, especially in North America, Bjork was the first artist to bring electronic music to the pop charts.

I’ll throw in a few additions that might enhance your understanding/enjoyment of the album: - as the title suggests, it is “Post” in the sense of the continuation of her debut album, with her thinking of it as its natural progression - although I’m far from a musical expert, there have been debates on both “Army of Me” and “Enjoy” as two of the few instances in pop music where an artist used the locrian mode (an unconventional musical scale, basically), which is why they both sound so dark - the one who’s going to meet an Army of Björk is none other than her brother, who she’s scolding (and will again in a future album) - the act of throwing things off a cliff in Hyperballad does indeed refer to her struggling with depression and intrusive thoughts (like imagining how her body would feel like slamming against the rocks) while being in a relationship, and can be also interpreted as a way to cope with the implications of actually being committed to someone, something that she feels to be quite scary, with standing on top of a cliff kind of counterweighting the feeling of being “safe up here with you” Anyways, I’m excited for Homogenic! Its last track, All Is Full Of Love, was put out as a single but in a different version, which I think was the original mix that she produced before changing it at the last minute. No pressure to include it in your reaction or anything, just throwing it out there because I’ve always felt it was far superior to the one that ended up on the album. You can find this other version on the official video for the song or at the forefront of her Greatest Hits on Spotify. Oh, and if you ever felt like you were curious to watch a live performance from her, there’s one for Hyperballad that’s personally quite a blast and a bit different than what she put on the album. You’d find it by searching “live in paris”. This is also on the same wavelength of “only if you feel like it”! Cheers! Glad you enjoyed the discography so far! 😊

Ayyy , glad ur continuing the Bjork journey. As you see/hear 🤭 , her sound was evolving but still retaining some elements of Debut's sound. Being older than You I was in my teens in 95 & yes this sound was Amazing however not something I hadn't come across b4hand, I was exposed to many genres of music by many cousins and friends at an early age. However, Personally, The song that BLEW MY WORLD was Hyperballad. To this day Top 10 tracks of my all time, of Anyone , for the incorporation of all the Classical Instruments. That Violin end always chokes me up. As I stated in my previous comment, her music videos are intricate to her overall concept of the track. She really starts to demonstrate that with Posts' Videos (if ur a Fan of Ren & Stimpy , the creator made the Video for this track). She was already starting to incorporate some electronic beats , sprinkled here & there on Post. At this point in her life , she was separating/ed, not sure , from her husband/son's father. However, moving forward from 95 she moves to London and started to get really into the Underground Rave/Techno party scene. These years will influence her next album, Homogenic. Looking forward to seeing it. Til then , TY for sharing the experience, Cuidate 👊

Yeah I’m starting to see from the comments that Hyper-ballad was the one that was so different and unique during the time. That’s so dope to hear! Moving to London and the influence of underground rave, I gotta get to homogenic soon, like now soon Lol thanks you for sharing 👏🏽🙏🏽 igualmente, que pasa buena
