Vocal music, sounds made with only the human voice, is the oldest form of human music. Singing started without words and Bjork just carries on that tradition. Scat singing, common to jazz, has similar roots. Bjork has been in touch with that growing up in a family of musicians. Bjork and David Bowie are on a rare plane when combining many forms of art and creativity into a performance that pays homage to the past yet thrusts into the future. Few have pulled it off so well.
