The shimmering darkness in Pagan Poetry is translated into its music video. And the video was banned on MTV in 2001 lolll.

Which is no surprise considering what she did on that video 😃

Americans are so sexually inhibited they can't even handle seeing a woman's breast without getting offended. You go to Europe and you'll literally see naked girls on TV commercials for perfume and stuff.

Well her husband who this album was about did cheat on her 10 years later so she was predicting that darkness in her music And the glitchy elements are called microbeats (which she invented I think) she didn't want to overpower the lush arrangements with usual drums so she took samples of every day items/sounds and made beats out of them on her laptop Also this was the first album made for online streaming she let her fans illegally download the album because of its sexual nature which would've been censored

I really enjoyed your reaction to Vespertine. Very honest.

This sounds like a far gentler Bjork album than the ones I'm used to. Volta was a bit of a headbanger.

U should check out Desire I Want To Turn Into You by Caroline Polachek!

One of her favourite artists is Kate Bush, looking back at your art-pop people have also claimed that Fiona Apple and FKA twigs were either inspired or influenced by Kate Bush.

Great listen-through! This is a top 3 album of mine. If you like the production on Hidden Place, and this album in general, check out Matmos. They helped on a handful tracks and toured with her, reworking a lot tracks to make them tourable and adding a Vespertine spin on tracks from Homogenic and Debut. They make highly conceptual albums that usually hinge on some sort of batshit restriction around the samples they use- Liposuction, cow uterus, a junkyard, balloons, synapses of a crayfish: *The Marriage of True Minds-* The instrumention, lyrics, and overall concept of this album were telepathically “transmitted” to people in sensory deprivation tanks that report to have psychic abilities. They mixed their original ideas with what the people “heard.” *A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure -* Uses samples recorded inside an operating room. *Plastic Anniversary -* Made entirely with plastic objects and samples of plastic things. *Ultimate Care II -* Used only sounds sampled from a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine. They also toured with the machine. Concept album month?

It's funny that you mention the sound of footsteps in the snow at Aurora, because that's exactly what it is. In a live TV performance they literally attached a microphone to the feet of a man who was walking on a box full of little rocks to simulate this sound, while she sang.

Yea I figured as much once I heard she used real sounds she recorded. Very interesting production all over the record

I like how you don't try to immediately interpret the underlying meaning of Björk's music in the midst of listening to it for the first time. One should always listen first, and then explore any possible interpretations one might extract. 🐧🍎🍏

Great reaction. This is the feminine follow up of the really masculine album Homogenic. I’m looking forward you to react to it.

Wonderful reaction to Vespertine. Love that you gave the tracks the patience they deserve. If you are to listen to another Bjork album, given that your first here is Vespertine, Vulnicura is the ultimate pairing. The relationship that created Vespertine, this sexual lullaby music, breaks down and splits apart in Vulnicura and Bjork documents the process of pain with that album. She also created healing in the subsequent album Utopia. 🦢💕

Are you doing a Synth-Pop month? I would recommend The Knife - Silent Shout. Or Deep-Cuts.
@Randyjoe2136 ай бұрын
As of right now I don't have plans for a Synth-Pop only month but I am planning a Dance month, which could very easily include some Synth-Pop albums. Your recommendation is noted!

Matmos produced this album. An electronic duo from San Francisco. Her live performance at The Royal Opera House USA must check out. ❤
