Road down to Aurland, Norway.

Highway 50 down to AURLAND from southeast.
The roads on the west coast of Norway is "spiced" with tunnels and ferries.

This road was built to because of the large hydro power plant there (you can see the transmission lines to Oslo). Entrance to the power station is actually inside the tunnel.

Imho, this is one of the coolest routes in whole scandinavia... I've done last 4 years every summer a road trip to Norway, and I am not going to end the tradition :)

? Ser det kommer biler iv mot nå? Før var denne regulert med 3 trafikklys. Senere ble vel det bare igjen det nederste v vinkeltunnelen? Hvordan går det da når 2 eller flere lastebiler møtes? Denne veien ble mye brukt før. Har selv kjørt her atskillige ganger på 90 tallet.

I have tried to locate the road / tunnel on Google Earth and begins at "Aurdalsvatnet & Nesbøvatnet" 60 ° 49' 41,04 "N / 7 ° 28' 49,69" E (altitude 818 m). From there, go west and follow road 50 towards Aurland 60 ° 50'51,78 "N / 7 ° 18'45,14" E (height 17 m). From Aurland you find Lærdalstunnelen (the Laerdal Tunnel, Norway's (and Europe?) longest tunnel. Good Luck.

Now these roads are mostly tourist attractions. Modern, highstandard highways with tunnels as long as 28-30 kilometers at places has taken over for all the centuries-old handbuilt, ferry-filled, twisty, risky old roads:)

As you can see in the video, it's not possible. One side is the abyss, other is the mountainside. If you want to widen the road you'll either have to build over the ledge or carve out the mountain, both will end up being insanely expensive and simply not valid to do all over Norway.
