She's gorgeous! And oh, I"ve been eyeballing the arteza pencils. What are your opinions on them versus others you've used? I"ve tried a few so far and love derwent so far.

Honestly, the Arteza watercolor pencils are my absolute favorites out of everything I've used. I have big sets of Derwent and Faber-Castell, and I could never get a good point. They were too hard or too crumbly, even the Inktense ones that are supposed to be softer... they'd end up scratching through the sealant or color matching I'd done. Prismacolor was just "okay" and I found them softer, but less intense color-wise. The Arteza ones feel a lot like regular Prismacolors, with a creamy core that sharpens easily and lays down a lot smoother than the Derwent or Faber-Castell do for me. Since they're softer pigment, the color goes down heavy and is blendable on the surface, too. :D I definitely recommend them.

how strange, it's working for me! at 0:20 I am using a paint brush with gouache paint. I use Arteza and Holbein gouache. When I use the colored pencils, they are Arteza professional watercolor pencils.

Great work! 👏 I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I mentioned in your other video that i am just starting on my doll faceup journey and tbh i am getting overwhelmed watching different tutorials and seeing different approaches which is also making me more confused. Though i know it's really up to me to try different mediums etc., and learn what works best for me. But for someone who's on a tight budget, it's a bit daunting to be buying all the materials. Plus not all are available in my country. I will only be doing Barbie heads (just the face, no body work.) The character i want to make does not wear makeup and this is really the only character i want to make. I bought the Faber Castell 24 pc. watercolor pencil set (as it's way, way cheaper than buying individual ones here) and plan to buy the Mungyo Soft Pastel 48 pc. set too (coz individual ones here are of a brand that are super duper expensive. Can't afford it.) Then I also plan to buy white acrylic paint for the eye highlights. My question is, is that enough or do i really need to use acrylic paints on certain parts like lashes, etc? Coz i sometimes watch Poppen Atelier channel and i see that she only uses watercolor pencils for the eyes. Though i don't think she puts individual hairs on the eyebrows which i actually want to do also. Sorry for this long comment. I really hope you can advise me. Would highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance! 😊

Between watercolor pencils, soft pastels, and a white acrylic, you definitely have everything you need to get started! Many people who do faceups begin with just those, that's how I started too. It's definitely not necessary to have paints for the individual hairs - as long as you keep your watercolor pencils sharp, they'll work great for drawing them on. In a pinch, you can also use pigment from your watercolor pencils to give you paints you can use for painting on fine hairs! You can pick it up off the pencil by getting the pencil core wet and then rubbing a wet brush over it to pick up color. Just make sure you let the pencil dry out completely before you try to draw with it again!

@@LomisPlayground Thank you so very much for your advice, esp for the lash trick! ❤ I hope you don't mind my asking one more question? Can 2 or more soft pastel colors be blended? Coz i was wondering if i can get away with just buying the 32 pc. soft pastels set instead of the 48 pc. as I hate buying stuff i'll never use, and there's just too many colors there i won't have any use for. I think i'll only be using the soft pastels for light countouring and blush. (As i mentioned previously, the character i want to make does not wear makeup.) Thanks again!

@@moondustgirl2132 Oh yes, I mix colors all the time! They blend on the surface like human makeup does to get smooth gradients (which can be used for contouring and shading too) but I also scrape the end of my pastels against a craft knife to make powder in a ceramic palette, and I use that method to create custom color mixes for contouring. So getting the smaller set should work just fine for you!

@@LomisPlayground Thanks so much again for your generous response. 😊 Good to know that smaller sets will do and that I can also scrape and mix the pastel powders. Also, I just watched a Korean faceup artist who uses solely acrylic paints and was surprised he uses it too for contouring and blush! He has this technique where he dabs small spots of paint then uses a wet Q-tip to spread it evenly. Didn't realize there are so many ways to do faceups!

Interesting, I usually start with the blushing on my dolls, I just feel it gives the most "bang for my buck" and helps me "see" the doll's face faster. I'll have to switch it around sometime and see how I like it with blushing second.

I think most people usually start with blushing. I tried that method for ages and never felt like I had control over shapes the way I wanted, so I was always dissatisfied. I thought maybe I was just bad at it or didn't "get" faceups, then I saw Iplehouse share a photo of their faceup artist doing the lines first and I was like whaaaat?! I did it on my very next faceup and have never gone back. Total game changer for me, and a good reminder that there's no one right way to do it! Also, thank you. :D
