It's so adorable! The washed out ''lagging'' effect is such a gorgeous touch, it genuinely reminds me of my old tamagotchi from back in the day. :D
@ebitachy2 жыл бұрын
ahh!! this virtual pet concept (case and character) is so cute, the scroll wheel somewhat gives the feeling like there's more options beyond the first four to scroll through, and ideally having it would free up the other button's functions to do more in each minigame, so i can imagine this being pretty fun without getting repetitive irl. it might be pretty hefty compared to a classic tamagotchi lol. the animation really makes this one though!

This was so fun to watch! It’s always so fascinating to see how you solve varying problems and tie it all into these beautiful end results - this had me so nostalgic for my childhood tamagotchi pet haha! Seeing it on the crt monitor is really the icing in the cake too. Thanks so much for sharing your processes with us, your channel is such a treasure :D Btw, @2:14 you mention there being no cylinder to use yet; in the tool property panel, if you expand the sub-divisions submenu (it’s on your screen at this timestamp, second line from the bottom) and crank the X value to max, you can convert the prism and pyramid primitives, to a cylinder and cone shape respectively. Similarly, you can also use the sub-divisions menu on the sphere to convert it to a more low-poly, blocky sphere, or on the cube and plane objects to customise the number of grid lines when the wireframe is visible. I hope that’s helpful!
@BJGpixel2 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks, yeah I especially enjoyed seeing the CRT for this as well for that extra nostalgia ✨ Oh wow I had no idea about the subdivision trick, thank you so much! That makes sense as to why those rounded forms don't need to be default shapes!

Hello There!! Excellent as usual. I was thinking all along.. so the 3D initial design is just a massive flex.. until the ending made it all clear - as to be expected. The lag LCD frame effect is an awesome detail and the background is 1000% 90s that is SO on point. PS - may 27 for Kenobi.. we need something special, you know it - You are strong and wise, Brandon, and I am very proud of you

Oh man, those animations are SO nostalgic - you did a great job capturing the fidelity of those displays! 👾 Great touch on the details too - it's really cool to see your style of detailing on top of the simpler egg-like design of the Tomagotchis 😁 And I can't believe you still have one too! Makes me wonder if my old Tomagotchi is stashed away in a drawer or somewhere 🥲
@BJGpixel2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah it was fun to experiment with the design and the translation of details to a pixel art presentation ✨ Haha so I actually got the Tamagotchi in the vid only a few years ago; they ran a marketing stunt where they were giving them away for free (just had to pay ~$10 shipping). My true original one from back in the day is long since unaccounted for; poor little guy, hope they're alright 🥲

Wow!!! I'm actually making a story, that revolves around cute electronic pet-toys, and was currently agonizing over a mock-up! It turned out to be the hardest part of the whole process, and that is taking the story, concepts and basic mechanics for the game and character design in and out of the game into account. This is going to be so much help! Thank you!!!

I really enjoy your videos, you are informative and entertaining to watch. However, as someone interested in retro game development, I wish to hear you speak about creating sprite animations by using the limitations of tiles. Especially during the 16-bit beatemup era, where those large character sprites were actually composed of multiple 8x8 or 16x16 tiles.

I'd also love a breakdown on the, well, breakdown animation at the ends of these videos. Something to answer questions like... How do you decide which steps are important enough to include? What goes into setting up the timing, like making the balls on the chain appear one-by-one without making it feel like its lost momentum? Is there some way of recording the canvas without your zooms and pans, or is each frame captured and saved separately for later?

I wonder if you could use an old Etch A Sketch Animator or Etch A Sketch Animator 2000 to do some pixel art. If I recall correctly, both allowed you to store drawings as individual frames for simple animations. The 2000 had a lot more features and was easier to use due to its stylus.
