I had that experience New Year’s Eve. I wore a black crushed velvet majorette blazer with rose gold lace trim and a cream colored prairie skirt with a leather top hat with conch band and someone said happy Halloween to me. Not surprised. I live in southern Alabama, definitely not the fashion capital of the world but the female lead singer of the rock band playing that night told me I looked beautiful. She got it! Keep dressing to make yourself happy!
