Having an error of a few % in the SoC estimate (yes, it's an estimate) is normal, it's difficult to get it completely right especially if the battery hasn't been driven empty in a long time. Part of the reason for the buffer is to "eat" this error where necessary. Anyway, not being able to drive for a bit after charging 1kWh is a bad user experience, even though it makes sense for the BMS as it recalibrated itself when it saw the true bottom.

It's a shame that we didn't see the voltage on each cell or what the lowest cell voltage was, because the lowest cell voltage is probably the main factor for battery cut off. Each battery may behave a little differently depending on the voltage imbalance between the cells.

Just some information for ENBW 51 cents/Kwh for ex ADAC customers in Germany. Beware your replacement for your ADAC/ENBW card will NOT arrive before 6-8 weeks, just in time for the end of the special price (51 cents). If you have already received a new card from ENBW (I ordered mine in advance) it will NOT entitle you to the special discount, you will have to pay the full price of 59 cents.

"Building up speed" while dumping 22kW in the motor isn't how you conserve battery power on a downhill. You either coast (0kW) or use just enough regen to keep speed under control.
@bjornnyland3 ай бұрын
22 kW is way better than 50 kW output.
@teardowndan53643 ай бұрын
@@bjornnyland Wind resistance scales with roughly v^1.3. When genuinely concerned about getting to the next charger, every watt wasted going faster than absolutely necessary is one watt too many. Telling people to "build up speed on downhills" by spending more power doing so than needed to maintain highway speed on a flat stretch is flat out wrong. "Building up speed" only makes sense as a range preservation strategy if you are coasting (~0W) downhill.

Hi Bjørn. If you receive any feedback from VW, it would be nice if you shared those. Seemed weird that the buffer is different for the MEB cars. Do you know why the SoC Display from Carscanner and what the car is showing in cockpit is different when you do the back up charge? And have you considered to leave the back up battery in trunk, and have the cable go out of the rear right window? 🤷😁 BTW... Love all your videos and different tests... ❤❤
