Actually Amarinder Singh protected Congress for 5 years. In 2017 had he quit from Congress and joined BJP they would have won hands down. Amarinder Singh's mistake was that he left only a few months before the elections and delayed his decision to ally with BJP. Had he done this even in 2020 as soon as Sidhu started meddling in Punjab government's functioning he would have come out more honorably. Amarinder vowed to defeat Sidhu and he did. The Model Code of Conduct appears inadequate as extremely vital aspects are left out of it. A sitting legislator or a minister should be disallowed from campaigning as they are under an oath to the Constitution of India. They have to step down before they can be allowed to campaign. A level playing field cannot be ensured either by an elected dispensation or the opposition but by the abovementioned Constitutional Bodies
