"This CANNOT be safe" You are correct. Just last year a guy fell 200 feet from Gooseberry Mesa and died. He was riding by himself when it happened. Some other riders came upon his bike up top, and as they looked around, they noticed he had tumbled off the edge and passed away. BE CAREFUL PEOPLE!! If it seems unsafe to ride a line or section, walk it. It's not worth dying over.

You guys should go down and check out Big Bend Ranch State Park for some remote riding and camping too, I've got videos on that as I've been traveling and riding full time for the last 5 months. Google has got to get that route fixed! We had the same problem taking that first route where you end up on that random tiny pavement path (old golf cart path) and up a gnarly switchback thing. We turned around and went back out to the highway and turned right (south) just before the gooseberry road. That's the correct route. I can't believe Google tries to route you up that dang golf course thing. Super annoying. Man, Pierce is a beast! Some crazy tech lines in there. Fun video!
