Thanks for your help Paul. I must take the rear bumper out to fix a leak. I thought taking it out might activate the air bags, you never know with these things, so I decided to watch some KZbin videos to find out. It looks like removing the rear bumper doesn't have anything to do with the air bags. I have a 2007 Mazda 3. I was born in Cyprus but I have lived in Melbourne since 1972. First point of entry to Australia in 1972 was Fremantle port. The ship was called PATRIS. Four days later I arrived at Melbourne.

You'll be fine removing the rear bumper. There is no airbag stuff back there.

Great video. Perhaps you can explain in words what you meant by half way off for the bumper because the driver side reflector is the only thing broken. How much needs to be removed and where do you stop? (Fairfax, VA about 25-30 miles from the District of Columbia, USA)

Basically, if you just undo all the fixings on the drivers side, then you will be able to bend the bumper back enough to get to the back of the driver's side reflector. The reflector is only held on with one screw, so you don't need a whole lot of access.

Aah, slightly disappointed the rear bumper has to come (partly off). Shame Mazda couldn't have designed a simple click it in system. Ah well
