I've watched yours and some other channels on spray paint art and even though I don't consider myself very artistic at all, I gave it a go on my own and am liking it a lot so far. It's pretty easy to impress others with planets and I'm now getting inspiration and guidance to step up my game to do some more artistic art like this one. Saved the video for future reference, can't wait to try it out and then see the faces of others if I get it to look even half as well as your painting does. Thanks for the excellent video guides!

Well Jon many thanks for sharing the art of can spraying...without you....would never have known how to do this work of art.....iv now mastered ( in a fashion) the mountains.and the trees in the back ground..to be truthful I did forget how you did the background trees....and was using a piece of card....but when I went back into your tutorial I remembered you used a brush...derrrrr lol any way all fixed now easy fix just went over it. Jon I’m having problems with the painting use....i don’t know if it’s because I’m not shaking it long enough or it’s cheep paint?at the moment I’m paying £2:50 for a can of 250m has iv only just started...I can buy car paint but that’s more then double the price....what sort of paint should I be using?the cheep paint at £2:50.... or the more expensive car paint? The problem is I put the black down then the white and black again...but it ones out watery? I’m thinking I’m not mixing it long enough ...what you think? Any way Jon your Da Man’ to ask....many thanks for great tutorials...of which....I’m work my was though 👍 Dave .
@JonBarberArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, Thank you very much for watching, and for taking the time to leave these kind words and this comment and feedback I really do appreciate it :) In most cases, the cheaper the paint the thinner the paint is I started off with old cans of car spray paint that I had, had for years, and they were thin-ish paints, I have not used a 250ml can before but I suppose they are just the same as the 400ml cans, If the paint seems a bit watery then it most probably thin paint which you are best using thinner coats of it as the more you spray in one spot the thinner/watery the paint will look/go, Do you shake the cans for around 2 mins each? Also, the car spray paint cans are like high-pressure cans which let a lot more paint out than a low pressure can, but once you get used to can control you can spray less paint out of a high pressure can, also the caps that comes with the cans are designed to let more paint out but you can control the amount that comes out by pressing the cap down with different pressures, Hope this all makes sense Dave :) The cans I used are 400ml cans and are around £4.50 a can, I also used 400ml cans which cost around £3.75 can, the cheaper one is a bit thinner than the more expensive one and they also have different pressures ones high and ones low. Is the more expensive paint in a 400ml can Dave? if so I would buy 2 cans off it and see how it is compared to the £2.50 cans, Let me know how it goes, and if you want to ask anything else feel free to do so Dave :) :)

Hi Patrick, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback, and the question, I really appreciate it :) It's also nice to hear you love my videos :) It depends what country you live in to be honest, It can be called different things in a different country. It took me while to find some paper in the UK, in the end i looked for paper suppliers on the internet that sold glossy paper, i found one which was not that far from me, but unfortunately they have now stopped trading now which was a disappointment to hear. but in the USA it's called poster board, which is what i was looking for at first in the UK, but couldn't find anything here which was called that, hope this helps :)

Great painting. Love color but B/W is so cool. I noticed you use what appears to be the same type of plastic bag or sheet of plastic. Do you purchase them somewhere or is that just what your grocery store uses to put your items into? Thank you

Hi Mike, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback, and the question, I really appreciate it :) Yes, I really like painting in Black and White only :) The Plastic sheet I use is part of a large bag that I cut up so it's easier to use, I got them from a place I use to work, they were throwing lots of them in a skip, so I took them, I don't know anything about them or where I would get any more from, all I know is they are a large plastic bag, sorry I couldn't be more helpful Mike

Hi Brian, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this comment, great feedback and question it's very appreciated :) If the paint is mixing up and turning gray try using less of each color when you are doing the planet then they won't mix as much, and also if you have a lot of paint down the more times you pull some paint of for the texture the more the paint will mix and start turning a gray, hope this helps :)

I’ve attempted this twice now and I’ve had to scrap because I can’t get the mountain to actually look like a mountain. Just looks like black and white splotches in a triangle shape. Any advice? Would letting the black part of the mountain dry before putting the white on work?

Hi Thomas, Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I really appreciate it :) It might be that you are putting a bit to much paint down before making the texture and its making it splotchy, try putting less paint down then do the texture :) or it might be that you are pressing/rubbing the materiel a bit to heavy which will pull more paint off, try rubbing really light when doing the texture :) Yes maybe letting the black dry first will help with the texture, but not sure as i do it with the black still wet, I hope these answers help you out and let me know how you get on :)

@@JonBarberArt ah okay thanks for the reply I’ll try doing those. I really want to work on my mountains. And noticed you did a long video just based on those which I will take some time watching and trying out myself. Keep up the amazing content as you’re helping me out who is not long started my own work. Even had an offer from someone to buy a piece of mine! I’ll update after I’ve tried out those methods. (Will probs forget) cheers mate!

Im just getting started in spray painting and I have a question. When I add white like you, I get a lot of white over spray in my sky . Any tips on how to stop or reduce the over spray. Thank you I really like your work.

Hi Dave, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment and question it's much appreciated :) It could be a number of things, it depends what caps you are using , or if the spray cans are a bit too cold , or if the hole where the paint comes out the cap has paint around it (not clean) or the can may need shaking up more. hope this helps.

I tried this myself but I am having a really hard time with what I thought would be simple textures. I use rustoleum black and white and even if I just have one layer of black, the white will just get absorbed by it. And if I wait for the black to dry and spray white afterwards, I still dont get a nice texture, just grey sludge. Do you have an idea as to why my black would be so wet?
@JonBarberArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Will, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment and question i really appreciate it :) The main reason that the black is soaking the white up is because you may have put too much black down first so when you spray the white over it the black will just absorbed it, Try spraying a thin coat of black by pressing down on the cap lighter to let less paint out to make the first layer of paint and then spray the white over that, this should stop the black absorbing the white, Also you really only want to do the texture once, maybe twice with your material you are using, and no more has the more you do the texture on them the more the paint mixes and then it'll will start to turn more grey/sludge looking, I hope this makes sense and it helps, let me know how you get on :)

@@JonBarberArt I actually have this same issue. I'm pressing really lightly but so much still just shoots out. Do you think changing the cap may help? I wonder if maybe the pressure is too high? I'm also probably way too impatient. Haha. I live in Seattle, WA so it's still pretty cold right now and allllllways humid. Is that possibly my issue as well?

Hi Necro, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question, I really appreciate it :) I use skinny caps on my cans, It really depends on what the stock cap is that comes with the cans, to weather you use it or not, Just remember it may take a few painting to get use to the caps and the cans and how they spray, hope this helps :)
