How many others go to the lengths in the search for excellence that you do? You have got to be one in a million. What you do is a whole lot of extra work, but it is the real right way. Bless you bro.

Very nice. I do have a question about the oil pan being too low. I noticed it when you first talked about the undercarriage and especially toward the end when you said you needed to modify the header pipe because it was too low. The pipe seemed to be the same height as the pan.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
When I was editing the video I noticed that too. It's deceptive with the camera angles, it is higher than the headers even with them raised up. One thing I'm learning is you guys don't miss a thing!! Which is good!

Great work! I've been dreading doing something similar on my firebird because they don't make long tube headers to work with the manual transmission in the 3rd gens. I'd not thought of cutting the collector off first. Thanks for the tip!

Maybe it was the camera angle but will the oil pan need ground clearance as well? Bottom of the pan looked to be around the same depth as the headers.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
It is camera angle although the pan is fairly low too

The ability of New Zealanders to get things done with an eye to done properly is the reason that when a kiwi fronts up for a job anywhere in the world the job is theirs!

Just buy flanges and build custom shorties. Those header tubes are that length for a reason.

Boy, that whole header process is about as scary as it would get for a novice or even an intermediate fabricator. First thing that came to my mind was throwing off the tube lengths.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
Equal length tubes is a race car thing where every last HP counts. Mass produced headers are never equal. Time,cost and room are the key criteria not that last one or two HP. Compromising on the primary tube lengths is not something you'd ever feel through the seat of your pants on the street. A few hundredths on the track sure and NASCAR teams will pay tens of thousands for that kind of time. You and I, not so much
@jdsmith556 Жыл бұрын
Wait a minute. Wasn't this the car that the company stated it was going to take about $1,200 to do the engine swap? What a load! Personally I had no idea that much work would have to be done, don’t get me wrong I knew some cutting and “ massaging” was going to take place. I’m sure maybe some of the work could have been short cut, but quality would have gone to the wayside. I’m happy to see your one of the very few still in the industry that give what people pay for. Unfortunately that’s really rare these days. Keep up the great work and never compromise in the name of lazy!
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
Thanks man. It was actually $1500 but that's not even 2 days work these days ........

@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
You really need a variable speed buffer. Looks like a bench grinder but it's different rpm's and different fittings for the buffing wheels. There are several buffing compound manufacturers but I've not noticed much if any difference between them.

What do you have to do to get the carpet to fit after making the transmission tunnel larger?
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
If your running a Centre console you can cut the carpet down the middle and that will often give the extra inches you need. If not it's custom carpets

@aussiebloke609 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but barely. Unless that's a trick of the camera.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
The sump is a on the low side but camera angles make it look worse. It is higher than the headers even now that I've raised them.
@The_R-n-I_Guy Жыл бұрын
That was my first thought. But then I quickly realized that Kiwi is a master craftsman and he wouldn't make such a mistake. I knew that either the oil pan wasn't in its final resting place. Or there was something else going on

The oil pan is just as low as the headers. You most definitely don't want that scraping on the speed bumps. That would be a lot worse than a bent header pipe.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Жыл бұрын
The pan is still higher. Camera angles are making it look lower. I noticed the same thing while editing the video.
