Just an observation I was noticing the the combs were being turned sideways. Isn’t this a no no as it risks the comb breaking?

Hay guys, great video. My compost fill is 1 to 7 ratio. the compost is made from garden wast but not stuf with shuger, ie apples and frute, and it is made with out air, so no turning, but by adding a little material at a time (anabatice aposed to adiobatic or somthing) . the wood chip is from wet wood, so when I prun my treas , but i Prun a little at a time and add a little at a time to the pile. so one of thoughs then 7 off wood chip. the wood chip is made with my chipper and no pine type or to soft wood is used. Ok so this is how things have developed to dayt then the hive has , the mix in but is will dry out in winter , but once the bees are making honey the compost chip mix seemes to rehidrat and act as a humidity controle device. ?? some how, dont know all the mecanics , but it still seemes to keep all the beneficial bugs happy. this mix will also last for years with out having to top up as the bugs seem to feed on the bee droppings, and not decompose much more. any how just some thoughts Kev

Can they grow in dadant ? How many frames brood ? Is this AMM
@BarefootBeekeeper6 жыл бұрын
Yes,bthey are Amm. No reason why they wouldn't be happy in a Dadant,vat hough they tend to make smaller colonies than A carnica or A ligustica.

Phil Chandler how much honey they bring in year 40kg or more?
@BarefootBeekeeper6 жыл бұрын
In a good year, Italians will out-perform them in terms of honey production. In an average year, there won't be a big difference. In a poor year, they will out-perform the Italians.

Hi Phil, Your voice was unfortunately bad to hear. But you talked about inbreeding, is there inbreeding on Isle of Man? And are the black bees on Isle of Man even before the Acarapis woodi? Or where the black bees imported later again? I yes, is there also Ligustica in? If yes, than they breed really good back on the black color. Mathijs.
@BarefootBeekeeper8 жыл бұрын
Black bees have been on the island since the last Ice Age, as far as I understand. There were some imports of Italian bees prior to 1980, but now they have established a legal ban on importation of all non-native bees. Work is in progress to improve breeding of native stocks with the intention of re-establishing them as the sole honeybee on Man. They have no Varroa and no foul brood.

Philip Chandler and there is also no Nosema caranea! Another question. Do you have a plan about your pagodahive with ecofloor. I can't find it on your website.
@BarefootBeekeeper8 жыл бұрын
I may do plans for the Pagoda hive one day, but it is experimental and I am not sure that it has any real advantages over other designs at this stage. I designed it to use the half-Dadant frame, as I had quite a number of them from Brother Adam's days at Buckfast Abbey.

No plans, but there is a video of me assembling it, if you check my earlier vids.
