Friendly reminder that during our first encounter we saw Julius fight.. He could use his time spheres to RIP PEOPLE APART INTO EXPLODING GIBS AND MISTS, and here throughout the whole fight, although beaten... He appears to be struggling, yet several times throughout the fight he has the hands reach that he could have used to explode and kill licht at any moment with a time sphere explosion. Julius wasn't fighting only for his country, but also his friend. If WIlliam wasn't trapped inside with Licht or Julius had a crueler or more pragmatic heart, he could have chosen to simply end the fight here, ripping apart Licht (and William alongside within) into a bloodied mass to splatter upon the castles below. Instead, he chose to sacrifice himself for his people, never treating Licht as a full all out enemy despite knowing he posed a risk to the kingdom. He was at peace with sacrificing himself for the kingdom to save his friend. He was tricked, but he realized late enough he needed to sacrifice himself to save both the lives of the people, and his friend William and stand up as a example of not just stunning power wielded mercilessly and ruthlessly efficently.. But caring for his people, and putting his own life and powers on the line to save his people when he realized he had made a mistake and Licht escaped from his control and attempted to kill all the people for his Vengence. Julius is a example of one of the most relatively overly powerful characters in anime done right. He wields tremendous power, but rather go on a power trip or look only after his own means, he chose to sacrifice himself to save the person he was fighting and the people he loved. Giving up his future because he'd rather have a world where he may have died, than a world where his friend stood dead where he was violently victorious. It makes his (temporal) death in the fight all the more tragic, and yet still opens up a path for Licht to have a spot up for redemption later afterward.
