Fencing isn’t the most well known sport here in America. It's the sport where you don't know who's competing until they unmask themselves. The athletes are almost completely concealed, and so is the coverage of their sport.
However, there is a diverse group of fencers whose athleticism and persistence to be the best, and often the first of their kind, represent why you should pay more attention to their sport.

My husband found Nzingha over the Summer and she was hosting Fencing in The Park for free for kids to come and learn. So we took our son all summer to learn with her and her team. She's very sweet and passionate about fencing and making sure she teaches the kids the importance of education as well. My son, his friends and the other kids really enjoyed themselves. I just started fencing a couple of years at the age of 30! To see Ed Ballinger compete at the Olympics at the age of what? 40? That really gives me hope that i would have a shot of going to one. My goal right now is to qualify for Team USA for Paris 2024 (the qualifications start now and end next April). If I don't qualify then, then I still have a shot in 2028!

Ed Ballinger was 24 at the Olympics in 1976. Uriah Jones was 40 at the 1968 Olympics.
