Harriet Tubman is the most well-known of all the Underground Railroad "conductors."
Born into slavery in Maryland, Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom in the North in 1849. However, she was not satisfied with just her own freedom. She would risk her life to lead her family members and other slaves from the plantation system to freedom on this elaborate secret network of safe houses. During a 10-year span, Tubman actually made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom.
The five-foot-tall abolitionist is among history’s most famous Americans-a woman with extraordinary courage, ingenuity, persistence, and iron discipline. Revered by some of her era’s most influential minds and given nicknames like “Moses” and “General,” she brought hope to generations of Americans, enslaved and free.

I doubt Harriet Tubman said this. Slaves knew they were slaves, it was branded into their skin. No one mistakes forced labor for freedom. Harriet's story has been retold by a lot of white women. This quote says slavery wasn't so bad for those that liked it. Which writing is Harriet verbatim? This video says she freed 300, others say 20-70. Actual numbers would lend some credibility to trending Harriet, otherwise it looks like propaganda.

Well, if she didn't say it. It was attributed to her because I have heard it all my life and some people would say I"m old. But we get what the saying means. Don't worry about it if u don't get it. It's ok.

4:33 The Underground Railroad was NOT established by white abolitionist and sympathizers. Majority of all those involved in the Underground Railroad who had safe homes were freed black people. There were hardly any white people involved in her efforts. You can literally count those white people involved on one hand. I went to Harriet Tubman's history visiting center and found out those who established and help contribute to Underground Railroad were majority all black people. However, this narrative that their was so many white people who established the Underground Railroad to help the same black people their ancestors help to enslaved is one of the biggest lies in all of American history! #facts

I don't think the underground railroad would have survived if it wasn't for those white people. Think about it. Why would slave hunters trust free blacks not helping their enslaved, especially in the south? They would have never made it without those white people just like a lot of politicians now can't win without black vote. Everyone need everyone else at some point or another

Quakers were helping since George Washington's days. While the majority of safe houses were black, Quakers along Ms Tubamn's route did help. Then, after Ms Tubman escaped, she was invited by people like Susan B Anthony to give speeches (to white people) so that they could learn directly from Ms Tubma, about the atrocities of savery. These speeches raised money and helped fund the Underground Railroad.

Harriet Tubman has taught us that we are literally nourishing carriers from our children, family,the loves of our lives and others...We may not have the Strength of a man but God has made it possible for us to be Strong enough to do the Impossible when things get rough..Harriet Tubman is one my Heros because I know how it feels when it comes to trying to convince people to not be afraid when I comes to doing something Good..🖤 I LOVE YALL...✨

Haven't seen the movie because I am so tired of our people making slave movies instead of making movies about our African ancestors. There is plenty of info out there to make a movie or a hit series show about the rulers, civilizations, wars/battles, etc throughout central and west Africa. We need shows and movies like Game of Thrones and Vikings. We all get the memo with the slave films. Good video B.E.

@@darius5396 actually it's not time to move on. These are REAL LIFE STORIES!!! There needs to be stories told of the Slaves who built Washington, Slaves who fought against the system. You cannot dismiss and minimize something that has bearing on our everyday existence in this Country. I would love for the stories of kingdoms ruled in Africa to be told. There is no reason why one true life story has to be excluded to tell the other. The one thing that the story of the Slave has given us is the story of THE FIGHT that must continue. You erase the Slave story, you lose foundation and you lose the fight.

And by the way. You said you haven't seen the story. How old are you? Do you have kids? I can assure you that when the movie Lincoln came out, which depicted events leading up to the Civil War, white folks took their children to see it. They take there families to see the White story, regardless of what era is was. You are telling me that regardless of the deaths, rapes, separations and atrocities suffered by your ancestors....you won't even go see the movie....because you are tired of the slave stories? Really??
@darius5396
@darius5396 4 жыл бұрын
@@dannyclay1967 every single slave event doesnt need to be told all at one time or all period. How many movies do you need in order to understand what happened in that time. It's starting to become an obsession and needs to be toned down. If you dont know the African an ancestors you will not be able to cover the events here accurately. You start from the beginning not the middle of the story.

She even said she had to dust the dirt mixed in with her blood, but Hollywood chose to show brutality at the hand of the fake black character. @@mzbeegrier539 The movie was horrible and full of lies. Harriet Tubman is one of the greatest African American icons to ever live and she doesn't deserve a movie that lies about her life. Read her Wikipedia page and see that 80% of the movie does not match what she actually experienced. Also Cynthia erivo has said disgusting things about African Americans so go research that. After the horrible things she said about African Americans she doesn't deserve to play an Africa American icon. And the movie was a big flop so I'm not the only one who saw through this garbage.

precious pearl here are some of the lies. Slaves weren’t respected workers. There was no black bounty killer. Slave patrol only consisted of white men and women. In fact white men and women were only allowed to be armed. Whites feared a black person armed. Also Janelle Monáe character was made up. There was so much more the director could have highlighted about her life. They left out a lot. I get why some people are outraged. To me the movie only highlights the Underground Railroad and few other details. When she was hit in the head, that was a significant part of her life.

Please pull up her performance at the Makers conference 2017 and also a show with this young man named Terrells show where she’s interviewed and also shares her brilliance through song. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🌟🌟🌟I really hope it’ll give a different perspective I love everything about her

Hollywood will tell any story like history is written.....in their way. Tires spinning for what purpose? Truth is from God, explain and try to understand this. Study group God damn anything people do on their own. Isaiah 11:11 11And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. (This was the route of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Black skinned people are not all the same race or origin. Any black person removed due to slavery are Israelites. We are one huge family from the sons of Jacob, dispersed and scattered as God has stated. God don't see us as Africans, because the Hebrews came into Africa they was not already there.) Exodus 11:7 7But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

That woman that produced this movie admitted that she did not even try to audition a Black American who shares a history with Queen Mother Harriet and could envoke that pain in the role. Ms. Tubman LOVED ADOS....black Americans. Who do you think she would have picked to play her? Now, I have no problem with blacks from different nationalities playing roles from each other history...We are all BLESSED with EUMELANIN. But don't add or lie about our history to the world, *Bigger Long* really?

Military honors but they never paid her the money she asked for when she needed it to live and help her, so those honors are worthless. The things with her name on then should be Harriet Tubman Davis, in honor of her husband who was down for her not the one who was going dime her out and betray her. She was Mrs. Davis at the latter parts of her triumphant life, not Mrs. Tubman.

I was thinking the same thing. I’m sure there were a lot of “illegal” abductions where blacks who were never slaves to begin with were kidnapped and sold into slavery down South by overzealous “bounty hunters”. It’s really jacked up just thinking about it...
