I was 8 years old when Star Trek began on tv. I was hooked! As a young Black female, it was still rare to see people who looked like me and even better, engaged in doing incredible things. I'm so glad she hung in there with the franchise. I saw every movie, bought the books that accompanied the original show, and remain a loyal Trekkie to this day. Thanks, Nichelle!

I am 48. I must say that it was nice watching her in the 70s and 80s with the Star Trek reruns. Very influential with my mechanical engineering career.

One of the pictures shown under #10 shows her using her left hand to give the Vulcan sign for "Live Long and Prosper." That is so appropriate for her.

@@BlackExcellist - In the scene where she is soldering with Spock looking over her shoulder, she is holding the soldering iron in her left hand. Surely there must be other examples of her being a southpaw.

@@bobsradio6025 Actually i think she is ambidextrous. In Mirror, Mirror she pulls a dagger on Sulu with her left hand and later she is holding a phaser in her right.

I was born in 1959. I loved to watch Startrek as a young child in the 60's. I remember her very well. I was impressed that she was a part of an all white male team and was actually respected. (I am white) As an adult I realized the sexism she endured due to the ridiculously short dress she was forced to wear. Thank god for strong women! She is an amazing woman and definately made inroads for women and black peoples' equality. And always was very beautiful too!

Ms.Nichols was a beautiful actress and a trail blazer for black actresses. She had a wonderful role on Star Trek. She shown depth and talent as an actress in her role as a madame in movie Truck Turner. Also she was a great singer and dancer, RIP Ms. Nichols.

Nichelle Nichols was my first celebrity crush. When I saw her on STAR TREK, I thought she was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Other than Uhura, when I saw a "darker" side of her in TRUCK TURNER opposite Isaac Hayes, where she played a foul-mouthed madame, I was shocked. She should gotten the Oscar nod.

Actually she did talk a bit about that movie, it was the only one Nichelle Nichols had done and vowed never to do another as she felt it was portraying Black People in more Negative light than Positive.

I've heard this also, Wondering if that's something she put in her book or just gossip over decades.

@Celestial Gaming Corner I thought it was in her autobiography (or memoir). From what I remember she said he was a very sensual man, I loved how she said it too. I will say, all right Mr. Roddenberry. She was a gorgeous, intelligent and stylish woman for several decades.

The reason she was decades ahead of her time was that she set the standards. She was planning on quitting Star Trek, but God brought Dr. King together with her and convinced her to withdraw her resignation, because she was doing so much to put a positive light on her race. It was not a "chance encounter" that brought those two together, it was God.

I absolutely LOVE Black Excellist. Thx for posting this latest video, too! Affirmation videos are getting gobs of views but most aren't specifically targeted to the Black diaspora. Folks like @alux and @Vybo are dominating this space and I'd love to see B.E. right alongside them. I'm curious if you all would consider producing a series of affirmative videos, specifically for the Black Community. As an actor, (I played Terrence Taylor on "A Different World" ) and I've been a spiritual counselor for the last 20 years, I'm willing to narrate these videos for free, for the first 100 videos! You heard it. That's how much I believe in your brand. Look forward to hearing back!
