So Dave, after watching you climb up into the heavens I can't help but to ask what the long pole jutting out the back of the wing might connect to? It looks so all alone & I know it must have had some type of winglet or control surface?? IDKnow but I subb'd up to find out? peace

The ultralight I fly is based on a hang glider atop a trike. A hang glider can rest on the ground, but in order for it not to bend or detune the tips, it has a keel so that it can rest on the control bar and the keel at the back. In the air, it performs no particular function.

Ahh, you see that I'm so new that IDKnow what's what yet? I'm older so a license is not a likely path for me but Pt 103 is very possible. As I looked thru all the choices(there are many), I saw the parachutes & hang glider variety w/ trikes. I liked the Hang Glider for the control inputs being operated by a body bar instead of the normal controls of a plane. Parachute models are out for me but these hang glider w/ a trike are looking attractive but I don't know if there's a standard "Joint/Connector" for the trike -n- wing to attach? I'm that early in my journey but the freedom I saw in this one video was impressive, in my most humble opinion. If you have a certain video or list of them that you think are really good, please drop the link & I'll go check them out. Thanks for flying & sharing the flight. peace

@@diggy-d8w The attachment point is likely to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Ultralights have a "beefed-up" keel for attachment and the CG may be different, more forward than a standard hang glider attachment. The side wires are typically larger (1/8th) rather than (3/16th) for a regular hang glider. Getting the pitch setup right can be tricky so I bought the assembled trike and wing from North Wing in order to avoid being a test pilot. I had a painful experience many years back, in which the CG was not correctly set and I came down and demolished the entire ultralight. I got a broken rib for my effort. I would agree that a motorized hang glider, part 103 is the way to go. Fewer restrictions, but should have an aviation band radio if you are flying from an airport shared with GA. I have an old Garmin that keeps me oriented when above the clouds. I have an old Hall wind meter for airspeed, but it is more informational than critical. The pitch is set and it takes a significant effort to slow down or speed up, so I do not need to watch an indicator.

Yes, I assumed a lot of things & beefier is better to me.... lol, I'm starting to really like the "trikes" & I like the cone on yours even though it is small. It goes against my better judgment to have my legs hanging out. I've seen one Pt103 aircraft that is a bicycle-plane, that's the name but loose legs is asking for a problem. In any event, of the designs I've seen I'm partial to ones that have some "cone" around the legs & to offer some small area for gauges. I'm sorry you learned some of this the hard way, I have suffered broken ribs before(much empathy) ! And your decision to buy like a matched pairing fits into my thought process as just smart. I'm having the thoughts you went thru, I guess everyone goes thru wondering what will work w/ what & what is safe as well? I'm glad you mention the COG b/c I had not thought about it w/ these but I think if you were trying to use different companies you'd need to be extra careful for that problem or if you had the idea of building your own trike. And although I think I could build a trike.... lmao, I'd never trust myself w/o some expert having looked it all over & making sure I used the highest quality materials in the build. You've shared more today than I've seen in several months of looking. I'll be digging thru your videos to see things I have missed & I'm not able to buy right now. No where near ready so I'll be researching for a long time before I just do it ! I always research the thing & I don't do any impulsive buying of used stuff either. @@diggy-d8w The nose cone is mainly for warmth. Otherwise cold air can be rammed up my pants. Another consideration is if you can hangar your ultralight. Not having a king post expands your options, because a king post adds 4 or 5 feet of height.

Thanks The wing is a Solaris 17 meter. The trike is an ATF with a nose cone. They are from North Wing. The engine is a Simonini 2+ 28 HP max 7400 RPM
