I love Black Funeral. Favourite black metal band from the US. I love the songs with the ancient Mesopotamian instruments and topics like Lamashtu,Lilith etc.Very cool.

I totally agree with you, BUT most of the records he's made since reforming sound like Drowning The Light to me. They lack that raw and feral magic that made those early records so scary and amazing. This one is definitely headed back into that direction.

As expected this is an awesome album! I don't know if anything Black Funeral puts out will ever top Ankou And The Death Fire for me as that is one of my all time favorite albums. I will say Flames of Samūm is much closer to that album than I anticipated, fantastic mix of atmosphere and rawness.

The overall theme of the album is, middle eastern black magick? Eh, lets go with it. This one started off rough. Not a fan of the vocals, way too distorted/machine sounding. Theres this brief moment in one of the later tracks where he goes to a more organic sound that i enjoyed much more. The intros to each song just feel like fluff / album padding. The melody in track 2 at 10:24 is the most whack shit ive heard. But the music is still great Thankfully track 3 is a good one, and continues a strong delivery into track 4, all the way to the end, making this a worthwhile listen after Vampyr. Really amazing stuff.
