Natural hair is radical!!! We always have to fit in to make everyone else 'comfortable'...
@MrNastydread6 жыл бұрын
I am tired of seeing my people striving to be anything but Black just to fit in and make an honest living for there families, I personally have dreads and i wear them in a tam always at work or anywhere else and I refuse to cut them, just to make White people and other scared and ignorant Black people feel comfortable. I need to feel comfortable and that is being my natural self.
@offcamtv5 жыл бұрын
Those females are fake. They cut their hair because they chose to make white people feel comfortable at work and every where else. I have dreads down to my waist and im not cutting them for anyone, especially not to make white people feel comfortable. I could Care less about their comfort level. My ancestors were uncomfortable for 400+ years, they didn't make adjustments to make them feel any less comfortable at all. Its all about money. If black females finally wake up and go natural, those billions that they are making off of that fake shyt, are going to disappear out of their pockets, and they don't want that.

I’m a 4C and don’t plan on relaxing anymore. I went back to wearing my natural hair in early 2014. It’s personal preference and a journey. I just recently started on a loc journey...My hair dresser told me, I’d have to commit for at least a year or more to reach the mature phase...Along the way, I’ve learned about African black soap and other oils like jojoba, argan, and rosemary oil. It’s been quite an educational experience and has boosted my confidence. We need to learn more about our hair and embrace it.

Bruklyn A, I’ll definitely think about it. As far as hair, for me, it’s about accepting what naturally grows from my scalp despite society’s disapproval.

Its so sad that when you decide to wear your natural hair its considered "so radical" in the presence of other races. I'm a RN and I'm over this "acceptable hair" thing. I keep my hair clean, no color, and tapered. But the top is long and I try to wear it big as crap when I can. I get daily compliments, but its odd that mostly its from white men and older white women. Oh well! I'm still a great nurse!😁

Natural hair was an awakening experience for me personally. I was going through a personal crisis and just shaved my head one day. Having the personality I have however, my family was just like, there she goes, but this is the most radical! It felt so good. Of course, for work I would wear a wig for the kind of job I had, but taking it off when I got home was like taking off your bra lol I learned to love myself more. I remembered my Mom just using water, grease and a bristle brush. My hair was beautiful, rich, thick and full. A relaxer was no longer in my world of what was authentic. That was 6 years ago and my hair is thriving, loves water, loves moisture, Oh we were so ignorant about our God given beautiful hair. Now wearing it straight is boring to me, it's thick but fine and very curly. I would have never known the beauty of it had I not decided to to get to know me, and my hair was a big part of that. It is a gift our hair. I embrace it.

They aren't used to seeing kinky hair? They are used to seeing it. They don't want to see it. They haven't been challenged to have to accept it. Why should I change the way my hair is when it grows out of my head to look like someone else. As long as it's clean and neat it shouldn't be a problem. It's just another form of control and prejudice.

I can understand if an employer doesn't allow certain "edgy" looks if you're in a job dealing with the public (like bright pink hair or a mohawk or a 10" tall afro) but to make restrictions on black people exclusively when they're wearing "natural" looks is biased, bigoted and racist. Black people have the most unique and amazing hair out of all the entire population, and to put "whiteness" restrictions on them is absurd. I personally love braids and the full-bodied "natural" curls look on women. Black people have invented some of the coolest hair styles and edges looks for the last 3500 years that other people groups are constantly stealing...but they don't have the racial discrimination to go along with it! I admire the strength that black people inherently have and/or develop as human beings, especially black women. Rock your beautiful locks ladies!! ❤ from a white lady who loves the Lord and my beautiful black brothers and sisters! God bless y'all

Loved this video. Going back to slavery days when the women were forced to shave their short & forced to cover their hair with scarves or rags, our hair has always bothered other people. As long as the hair is clean & in a neat style, that includes afros, locs, braids; there shouldn't be a problem. There's nothing worse though than an unkempt afro, sticking out & disheveled.

LMAO My mindset is you gon' get used to this natural hair in it's natural state. Granted, I do work for a predominately Black organization so It was never an issue, especially when I had a bad hair day under my turban (which I eloquently matched with my outfit lol). If HR doesn't approach me and it isn't listed in the handbook, I'm not straightening or cutting to appease my employers!

I HAVE KINKY HAIR. BUT I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. BUT WHAT I DO IS DEEP CONDITION IT TWICE, A WEEK, (I DO THIS AT NIGHT WHEN I GET HOME FROM WORK) GIVE IT A SCALP TREATMENT ALSO AND PUT IT UP IN A PONY TAIL ON TOP OF MY HEAD AND TIE IT WITH A SATIN HEAD SCARF. IN THE MORNING I TAKE OFF THE SCARF AND PUT A KINKY BUN ON MY HEAD AND I'M OFF TO WORK. SIMPLE NO FUSS! IT'S A MATTER OF TAKING TIME TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR AND WORKING IT WITH HAIRSTYLES THAT ARE QUICK AND EASY BUT IT WORKS WITH YOUR NATURAL KINKY HAIR.

Good Documentary, however I feel that appearance bears no reflection on ones ability to do the job. I don’t think that as a nation we should have to conform in order to fit in as it appears it becomes expected. Stand for nothing and fall for everything, it’s time we say enough is enough and have freedom of choice in all that we do ✊🏾

Was not fair, is to set a standard on a whole race of people to force their narrative to be like theirs. What is professional? I get it if you are in a people interactive position and the person has polka dots in their hair. Then she says use to seeing. No they want us to make them feel comfortable. There’s nothing new about African American hair. They might not be new to the game, they’re most certainly true to it. Out black women and men, women especially have it hard on all sides. One, they’re pressured to meet the demands of a man. Two, they have to meet the demands of corporate even though it makes them uncomfortable. I love a sister with natural. The absolute persona of a queen.

I like to see natural hair if it frames her face and is out of her eyes. Straightened hair leaves me feeling uncomfortable. I have 3a, 3b, and 3 c hair and have experienced the same restrictions when in high school and when working with women. Working as a female engineer with all engineering men is easy because they do not know much about women's hair.
