I’m not an American and I’ve never been in USA. I’m from Poland but your ideals and perception of honor are very close to my heart. Right now I’m building the Randy Shughart M14, as my tribute to his bravery. Just found and bought Aimpoint 5000 which will be installed on my M305 (chinese copy of the M14 rifle) with NM wallnut stock and M1907 sling. The only problem is the ARMS 18 scope mount, because it’s basically unavailable in Poland and Europe, but I hope I’ll finally get it anyway. Best of luck for all of you, and cheers from Poland.

As an American, it's always nice to see comments like yours from such a great friend as Poland. Your country has a great history with a tough, never-give-up attitude and there've been a lot of your countrymen that have helped build the United States, starting with Thaddeus Kosciuzko. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that you're able to to enjoy classic rifles like these in your country. I mistakenly thought Poland had most of the same restrictions as the rest of the EU. He taught me everything I know about firearms and taught me gun safety before I even owned or saw one in real life due to him accidentally shooting himself in the hand with a 9mm. But being around him for long enough I got to hold an m16 when I was around 9. I somehow obtained the black hawk down book and have had it for at least 10 years now but I haven’t gotten around to reading it. But it was a very touching movie to watch as a young kid it was very eye opening on what war was like these days. I used one down range to great effect. A Mans rifle built for American rifleman. Mine was utilized in open country, dealing with longer ranges than an M4 or M16 was useful. Heavy, hard hitting, accurate, reliable and when it comes to your rifle as a DMR, it served me well. It did need attention but never repair. A rifleman cares for his rifle always. I will say the AR 10 was a better choice. On the other hand when in skilled hands, our enemy was detoured from pursuit when a skilled, cool headed marksman put it to work on them. I can effectively shoot an M1A at 700 yards, iron sight with a decent spotter in adverse conditions. It was definitely out classed by the AR10 when night fighting. Get one if you can!

When I went through Marine BootCamp at Parris Island we carried these and qualified at 200, 300, and 500 meters. Very accurate at all distances and we did this with open sights. Walnut stocks at the time and loaded was 10lbs….. I loved it except for the weight when humping it on long hikes….. when I went t to the fleet, used and M-16 (this was 1971) and hated it. The nickname for the M-16 was the Matty Matell…. Great rifle despite its foibles.

The M14 is my favorite all-time rifle. My first experience with it was shooting competitively back in the mid-80's, except we were using iron sights for 1000-yard shoots. Nothing like the power of the 7.62 NATO round in the current U.S. .30 cal inventory. Unlike the Mattel mouse gun, when you were in the butts pulling targets, you KNEW when the shooter in your lane (or any other lane for that matter) put a round downrange. The dirt would explode and put huge divots in the target area. With the M16 on the range, you'd constantly be asking your butts partner, "Did he shoot?" It was interesting to see the Picatinny rail configuration on yours. Love the original fiberglass stock. A firearm I've bought because of a movie? Tough one. I can't really say I went out and ever bought a firearm b/c of a movie---unless watching Patton as a 7 year-old, then buying an M1 Garand 40 years later counts.

I'm not sure why you say the M-14 "has a lot of problems", because it really doesn't. It is a solid rifle. Not real problems with the platform, just not preferred by many for a host of reasons (weight, size, awkward optics mount options, etc.)..and that is purely individual preferences which is just fine. BTW, kudos for doing a nice tribute to Shugart...truly a brave man.

At the time,that would have been "an experimental weapon with experimental ammunition"(to coin a phrase) & highly unlikely to be available to a man in the South during the tag end days of the War between the States. But,it made for as good movie.
@electricimpulse73 жыл бұрын
@@doughesson absolutely. A little early for it's day, at least for a Colt. Not sure about Remingtons like the one Lee Van Cleef totes. But then again, the on-set purpose of a bore-through cylinder that loads and fires cartridge blanks is more than necessary for the action and stunts the actors perform. Cap and ball/percussion cap pistols, though loadable without the ball, would still fire a wad. Something you don't want your stars to suffer. I think cap and ball pistols are seen a couple times anyway, in non-action scenes. I think Cleef has one a couple times. So a company took the "prop" Colt 1851s, converted them (in the same way as was done back in the day) for Blondie and Tuco, and I guess they did the same for Angel Eye's Remington. I think it's the same company that manufactures the one I bought. It's an Italian company, Uberti, or Pietra, I can't remember which makes them and if one is just the US distributor. Anyways, a fun, pretty, and loaded gun!

Saw this on my recommendations. And yes, Shugart did used an M14 exactly as this. He was a good buddy along with Gordon to my dad who also was in that conflict rather ago. He fought with them both BEFORE Somalia most notably Panama in Operation Just Cause. Randy Shugart, who fought bravely to the death in order to attempt to save the crashed pilot CW3 Micheal Durant alongside MSG Gary Gordon as they did their job to hold their ground the best they can until support comes, which support came too late. But they died with honor as they did posthumously got rewarded the Medal of Honor. First time since the Vietnam War that someone got a posthumous rewarded Medal of Honor. Rest easy SFC Randy Shugart (August, 1958 - October, 1993) and MSG Gary Gordon (August, 1960 - October, 1993). They would be in their early 60s if they were still alive today as Randy would have been 62 and Goldie would have been 60 of this year. My pops is exactly in between of them as he is currently 61 (born in 1959) basically the same age as them. And I believe my dad was one of the guys that were part of the extraction team that raided their stronghold to get the warlords responsible for devastating the whole country as it was the whole point of that operation. He was portrayed by “Hoot” Gibson, played by Eric Bana, as Gibson also portrayed another real - life Delta Operator. And the M14 that Shugart carried could possibly have classic wooden Vietnam - era furniture or like you said of having a match kit polymer furniture. At the time, it obviously were in limited service as it was replaced by the M16 decades before. But afterwards, the M14 were used as a designated marksman rifle alongside the semi auto - only M14 variant; the M21/M25 Sniper Weapon System. And many Delta Snipers used the M21/M25 during the operation, too. The reason why Shugart used the M14 was because due to the greater stopping power due to its powerful 7.62X51 MM NATO cartridge versus the 5.56X45 MM round chambered in the CAR -15s and other Colt carbines and M16 series of rifles.

In the case of my honey badger, ladies and gentlemen, if you have the means and youre in the market, seriously i cannot stress this enough, buy one before we cant anymore. I knew one of the medics who spent the night in the first helicopter trying to extract the crew. I knew him for a couple of years before I found out he was there. At the time I knew him he was in the Army Reserves, years after Mogadishu. I found out he was there from his Reserve Lt. Colonel who I worked with. He got the Silver Star. The Lt. Colonel told me the whole story when I mentioned him in conversation one day. The book spent more time on that extraction than the movie did.

My first deer rifle was a M14. It was given to me by my grandfather when I was 13 year old. 25 years later, I admit it doesn't get used anymore but I would give up my left nut before I would let anything happen to this gun. After watching this video it made me want to shoot it again since I probably haven't shot it in 5-6 years as sad as that is to admit. So I plan on getting it out this weekend and dumping 100 or so rounds threw it. Crazy thing is it still equipped with an old 10-30x50 Bushnell scope from the early 90s and is almost in mint condition. Unfortunately I have no clue where my grandfather got it or it's history beyond him giving it to me.
