What Beyonce says in the beginnning about "You are welcome to come home to yourself." really resonated with me and imma tell you why :,) For me, being black in America and having no clue where my ancestors are from, this really hit home for me. There's always been this thing between black people who live in places like America and black people who live in African countries. Like I've heard stuff like "look at you, you're so American. You've forgotten your roots. You know nothing about your culture." but like....who's supposed to teach me about my roots??? The American school system? I think not. Ofc we have to take it upon ourselves to educate ourselves, but it's literally hurtful to hear someone basically telling me that I'm not accepted back 'home' when I didn't make the decision to leave...we were taken and brutalised. I've always wanted to connect more with my culture and find out where I'm really from, but it's hard when you're recieving judgement from the ones you'd want to embrace you with open arms. And for clarification, I am in no way shape or form saying all Africans treat African Americans this way. Honestly I've seen lots of disrespect from our side, talking about how someone's an 'African Booty Scratcher' and shit. Like hello we're all from Africa and that's something to be proud of. The westernised media really portrays the entire continent in such a negative light when it's such a beautiful and rich place. And so Beyonce saying that really hit home for me and for a lot of other people watching, I'm sure. TBH I cried the whole way through Black is King. ESPECIALLY with Brown Skin Girl and Otherside. This is turning into an essay but imma keep going lol. SO with Brown Skin Girl I bawled the whole time. I remember how the entire world dogged Blue as a baby for being born with natural black features. Saying she had a fat nose like her daddy and calling her nappy headed. I think since Beyonce is light skinned with long hair, people expected her kids to be the same, which is damaging and colorist asf. It was mostly black women coming for Blue too and it was honestly appalling. To see Blue sing the song at the end made me smile, bc she's so beautiful and to see that her mother made SURE that she knew that is another example as to why I adore Beyonce. Also Idk if you knew Ash but I think OTHERSIDE is about Bey's miscarriage :( that's why she was crying, and I think the baby floating down the river was not only meant to reference baby Moses from the Bible, but to represent her meeting her baby on the 'otherside' hence her dressed in all white and greeting her baby w a smile. Yeah that one fucked me up. I can write an actual essay on this album and that alone proves how amazing it is. Like you said the fact that we're alive at the same time as this queen is a blessing lmao. And to any black kings, queens and royalty reading, I love you and you're amazing

I am born and raised in Nigeria. And it's actually shocking the way a lot of Africans bring down African Americans and vice versa. Like, no one chose to be born where they were born, or raised there. I understand what you mean, and I'm sorry that you have to through that. But like you said, not all Africans are like that. I think the major problem is just ignorance on both sides

I burst into tears because my first thought was "she's beautiful, I want someone to look at me one day and think I look beautiful like that". It was so sudden and out of the blue. As a child, I never got to see the things I get to see now in the media. One day soon I hope to see it in the world around me too.

The Otherside was about her miscarried baby. The scene where the basket shows up in calm waters and Beyonce is all in white is her reuniting with her child in heaven. Her and Kelly in Brown Skinned Girl, plus Blue.....I can't. 😭😭 So beautiful. This is a masterpiece, and you said exactly what we're all thinking. If she doesn't win any of her nominations it is rigged. Beyonce is so beautifully petty that she knows she's made something unargumently perfect that if the award shows shit on it then the truth about them and what they're doing will be revealed. To show face that they're not trying to blackball her and her husband they'll have to eat crow. They'll have the Beyhive shutting them down and getting them together. Lol. The tongue hanging out in the video "Already" is something that is of the African Diaspora. I saw Shakira did that during the Superbowl. She said it was a sign of celebration, and it came from a certain tribe that was brought to Columbia during the slave trade. I did notice in the superbowl that she was representing the culture the African diaspora instilled in her country and how relevant and engrained it is. Also, the Lion King is based off a real King in Africa from the 1200's.

Beyoncé is definitely playing a spirit/guardian angel the entire film. I wonder if that means she’s playing Rafiki considering she constantly guides Simba’s spirit (the blue guy) throughout this whole thing 🤔
@blackkatt7774 жыл бұрын
I believe she plays the different African deities that guide in certain circumstances and celestial ancestors from the great beyond, to guide him. I know in "Already" she was Yemaye the water goddess (Her walking on the plastic laid out over the grass and it looked like water, while she was in that significant Teal colored outfit. She was that for a few of them. She was the goddess Oshun, who wears bright yellows/Gold colors. She is a protector of children. Beyonce has been channeling that Energy since before the twins were born, ever since she's been doing her research about the African culture and their beliefs that were taken away from them when they were taken to the "New" land. Their language, identity and religion was taken away from them, otherwise they were punished and even killed for it. The whole point was to disconnect them from each other by forcing them to speak a foreign tongue and take away their strength in unity and identity because that made it easier to break them.

As a South African, seeing familiar place was so weird in such an international project. I saw someone comment on Twitter that of course Simba would go to Johannesburg to do f*ckboy sh*t (if you're from SA you know that that's the f*ckboy capital of the country). Also the fact that adult Simba and Nala, along with some other character, were played by SA actors ... no words. It's so refreshing to see out talent and stories showcased beyond the usual poverty lens that Hollywood likes to portray. I hope movies like this and Black Panther inspire creators to continue moving the needle in a positive direction.
