LSV just calmly discussing possible Lotus/Mana Crypt plays towards the end of the draft after never drawing either card is just too much self control. I'd be losing my shit at that point. Loving the Legacy Cube content tho!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen cursed scroll get tapped by LSV. It’s a card I played 4 of in red deck wins (around 2003 extended) and top 8ed many tournaments too, so I love the card. But I just don’t think it’s very playable in the cube except as sideboard against agro or in a very low cost agro red and/or white deck. Btw, that red deck wins list had 4 jackal pups, which were great, but compared to ragavan it’s absurdly outclassed. Tho the Mogg fanatics were way better than now because of damage on the stack, 2 for one machine!

Given that we didn't have either monolith yet, was there any consideration to hedging with Dungeoneer P3P1? Also, I was surprised there was no mention of Stoneforge, it seemed like that would have been good in the deck if cryptic coat wheeled and solid even without the coat.

It was a bizarre draft, but to be fair, the world is nuts right now so it kind of fits. LSV passing dungeoneer for shelldock when he has a lotus feels like a glitch in the Matrix. Just another sign that the world is off kilter.

@26:00 wouldn't it have been better to mystical for dismember, use the dismember to kill the thopter and win that turn?
@andreabaj55299 ай бұрын
I think that Zirda is way overrated: yeah, it’s technically a free 6 mana creature that can combo off if you have the right card, but the downside of having to pass much higher quality cards to play suboptimal ones to avoid losing the companion is too big. Also Lutri is a bit overrated: not in the sense that it makes other picks worse, but that I’d not take it over cards like Oko. Most of the times it’s a six mana 3/2 that you get for free, but unless you build it like an UR Delver deck it’s going to be a vanilla beatstick that, imho, didn’t impress me at all in comparison to an engine/wincon that is Oko or such
@lark73119 ай бұрын
Idk about the LSV cube but in Mtgo cube you don’t even notice the zerda requirement when drafting.
@notice92189 ай бұрын
So if you take a card and then don't build around it, that card isn't good. Strong take. I bet you end up in 5 color good stuff a lot.
@andreabaj55299 ай бұрын
@@notice9218 no, you missed the point, which is that the requirements to build around Zyrda, compared to the ones needed for Lurrus which is the only actually good companion in cube, force you in a disadvantageous spot. This is because compared to cards that require build around such as Breach/Freeze or Academy, you are forced to have EVERY card cater to a specific requirement. Like if, to be able to play Breach/LED/Brain Freeze all the other cards needed to have the word “Graveyard” on them.
@LSVargas9 ай бұрын
You underrate companions dramatically - free cards that you can build around and always have access to are incredibly busted
@andreabaj55299 ай бұрын
@@LSVargasin theory sure, in practice only some of them are (namely Lurrus and Lutri, which is a little lower in my list than some other picks, but still increribly good), because they don’t force you to pick bad cards just to satisfy the restriction. A 8th card is good when the rest or the cards is good too and Zyrda, as Umori, Kerugw ecc. albeit better then those two, falls in the “making your deck worse to play this” cathegory that in Vintage cube works only that much

@RaleighTSakers-r9p9 ай бұрын
im looking at your manabase, you seem well enough covered for u and w, to the point where i would personally be pretty tempted to throw the gruul turf in, as a colorless that taps for two. it could help out with prismatic ending, or to cast the companion assuming it replaces an island(which is the way i would go). but mostly i see a lot of cards that you can throw a lot of mana at, and turf looks pretty inviting to me. upheaval, ballista, coat, card draw, foundry, all of these benefit from extra mana, and i think you could afford the colorless/cipt aspect no sweat. not even a consideration? at the very least it should be an option on the table for any matchup where wasteland isn''t looking like the way to go
@luketrout81279 ай бұрын
At 57:10, should you have fractured identity’d the world spine wurm before flash killed it so you’d have two lethal attackers and he’d have no blockers, or does it not work like that?
@jmandelli9 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing. But, I think worm automatically gets sac'd without passing priority when the person who cast flash chooses not to pay the creatures cmc. Doesnt give a window where you could FI it
@Junglej0hn9 ай бұрын
Saccing the creature if it's not paid for is part of the resolution of flash. Basically, unless it's a delayed effect(e.g. sacrifice at the beginning of your next end step), you do everything written on a card when it resolves before anyone gets to do anything else.

I feel like companions in general are overrated in cube. You’re so rarely in a position where spending time to put them into hand ends up winning you a game you would have otherwise lost. Lurrus is of course strong, but the rest are meh.
