Brought tears to my eyes because I remember when deacons were filled with God's Spirit and prayed like this. Just anybody could not be a deacon. He had to be set aside and taught his duties to God and the Church and then the Pastor and seasoned deacons would lay hands on him and pray over him. Unfortunately today it's more about pats on the back than true holiness. Humbleness in prayer is what we need in church.

So many these days don't know about the way elders would pray in church back in the day. I learned a lot from listening to those old deacons in church. If kids acted up in church back then; the ushers or elders would straighten them up and tell the parents and they got it again at home, if not in church. Things have truly changed from the ole time way.

I had the opportunity to visit a Church in NY which conducts a service like this once a year so that the younger generation gets to experience what it was like back in the days in the black Southern Churchs. I really enjoyed it and people were also dressed the part.

Old, old time church! How well do I remember. People were sincere about serving God back those days! We used to have prayer meetings at least one night a week,and the youth got involved telling their experiences in honoring God! Those days , it seems has gone and and forgotten with the exception of a few and far between us! “Where there is no vision, the people will perish”!
