Racism made chattel slavery acceptable. To treat people like animals, one must be able to dehumanize them, especially in such a brutal manner. Imagine, the abuse would have been worse, if it wasn’t for the fact that the ownership class did not want to damage the property upon which they depended for their wealth.

Actually, Historical Materialism tells another story, a society becomes a serf based society when the State owns the means of production and other social classes are owners of either land or stores that do work but are not necessary for the survival of the rest of society. Owning land and owning merchandize was necessary for their survival as a Banking family, or a family of landowners, Lords, or as a Merchant in the society. Monasteries were serf based society within a society of social classes growing larger more bold, ready to confiscate Church property and make it the property of kIngs that when fallen the consultants to the king became the State and were renamed as senators. But the work performed by rich peasants and hired labor together was work necessary for the survival of the whole society. It was they who proved they can produce more as the population got larger. But the rich peasant was still not the owner of the tools and implements, feed, seed, stock, in short, the means of production, these items were lent to the rich peasant and for centuries the Lord owned the means of production (land, water, soil, tools, implements, livestock) until one day a civil war broke out to end this contract relationship. Racism emerges from a Landed Aristocracy not the capitalist peasant farmer hiring black proletarians. People wrongly think the capitalist class came from the merchant classes of the past, i.e., Venice, Holland. This would be a whole truth if they made their wealth from exploiting labor-power but the merchant classes did not make the bulk of their riches from employment and production, they made it from trade and commerce. The exploiter of labor-power is who the class of capitalists came from and these people were small landowning peasants. Not nice people and yes they were racists and transmitted that racist attitude to exploit serf workers was an attitude they came to learn from Lords (Nobility) about life in general, a very ego centric attitude. The Me attitude comes from the Nobility, as does the racist attitude. Yes they treated people like animals. People in general were uneducated brutes back then. About 3/4s of the world population today are still uneducated brutes. By brute I mean ignorant, can’t read or write. Technically, the US is less a serf society than China. In China the State owns industrial productive power, in the US the State contracts with capitalists who own the productive power. Raytheon’s portfolio is 60% government contracts 40% private customers. The State in America would not be contracting with capitalists if productive power in the means of production were in the hands of Congress. Congress has a small percentage of ownership of these utilities. It owns the Tennessee Valley Authority and other big utilities, the Hoover Dam, etc., We can always understand any society by the position of the means of production in connection to social reproduction and survival. Serfs were day workers and they were hired by small land owners who were rich peasants. The Big Landowners were the Nobility, Lords, 3/4s of the members of the US Senate are Big landowners, a Nobility and are heirs of a southern Landed Aristocracy, the small peasant land owners got rich exploiting serf day-workers grew to become the multinational corporations of today. Trump’s origins are not from a Nobility but America’s political elite are from a Nobility. In America the political parties are the party of a aristocracy and a party of industrial capitalism. Standing in front of town deli stores waiting for a contractor to drive up and offer them work are the lower rungs of the working class, migrants, move up the ladder and we stop where a rich capitalist has a personal workforce of 500 employers and that is where the middle class begins (Trump supporters) and the working class stops. Historical Materialism tells us, that humanity has a real long way to go before the words; To each according to their ability, to each according to the need, becomes a reality.

In light of the CPUSA's policy to supress black voices within the party, its now more important than ever for the PSL to advance this position. Historically, black people were at the forefront of building this country and in the future no socialist construction will be possible without the support and input of black people.

Don't confuse the Communist Party USA with Black Marxism, the subject of this interview. Sometimes there was convergence between the activists of both, but sometimes there was divergence. Many Black people joined the CPUSA because of its important stands on Black issues. Many stayed. But many left because they felt the Party was not doing enough for the Black struggle. There is always a tension in white and white-led circles that the issues of Black people, or indigenous people, or Chicanos, etc., are being dismissed. The best organizations in my opinion have not found the answer to this problem, but are aware of this problem and demonstrating an openness to conversations. But this is rare.

The CPUSA still operates to this day. There is federal legislation that bans CPUSA and other communist organizations from operating (Communist Control Act of 1954), but it is not currently enforced, and has been ruled unconstitutional in some local courts. In practice, the US govt. approach of enforcing a ban on communist groups was replaced with allowing them to operate, while placing massive amounts of surveillance and police infiltration into groups to derail any opportunities for success. At one point during the 1950s, 15% of CPUSA membership consisted of police informants. In some cases, the infiltrators end up taking over leadership in movements, directing members into criminal behavior or framing them, and forcing many activists into becoming political prisoners (there are some Black Panthers who literally ended up in jail for decades because they were intimidated or tricked into traps by informants). This occurred a lot in the 1970s (such as the Panther 21 case) and it even occurs today (look into Mickey Windecker, an informant who took over leadership of 2020 protests in Denver and coerced activists into felony behavior). There have even been a few small communist groups in the 1960s that were completely created by police/informants to fulfill those objectives. It means that it's hard for a lot of people on the left to even trust eachother, and don't even get me started on the CIA/NED sponsorship of anti-communist social democratic groups to further that fragmentation. Long answer but that's basically what it's like here in the USA for leftists.
@LowellBDennyIII
@LowellBDennyIII Жыл бұрын
@@Alexandra-tv4kx The Communist Control Act, like parts of the Smith Act, have been ruled in federal courts as UNCONSTITUTIONAL. But this has not stopped the bans against Communist Party members *in some areas/states.* So, for example, any labor union representing federal workers must ban Communists from their unions: this has not been enforced, to my knowledge. Those unions must also ban Communists from holding office in those unions: this HAS been enforced, but I am convinced if it were challenged in federal court today, it would be overturned too. On the state level, California prohibits teachers and administrative staff to be members of the CPUSA. I believe this is not enforced, but it is the state law.

There's a reason you didn't know that basic fact about one of the most important Americans of the 20th century. Socialist and labor history in the US is purposely suppressed so as to divorce we the people from our own history, then it becomes much easier to argue against radical left positions as being foreign imports rather than informed by the lived experiences of the American people.

Marxism is class based not race based. This person largely doesn't fundamentally understand anything about Marxism. Marxism is not a "tool" to be remixed or re contextualized, it's an economic philosophy.
@ianmitchell5169
@ianmitchell5169 Жыл бұрын
slavery and the contemporary formulation of race in general are ultimately economic phenomena. racism exists to justify the profit gained from exploiting people for free labour. In that sense Marxists must engage with race, sex/gender, and any other vector of oppression.

Historical materialism/Marxism is a method(tool!) for evaluating the past and thus determining the course for the future. It is a science and as such evolves with new information and further understanding. It is not a religion or a static philosophy. It is you who doesn’t understand it. P.S. race, as an ideological justification for domination, is intrinsically connected to class. “In fact, the veiled slavery of the wage workers in Europe needed, for its pedestal, slavery pure and simple in the new world.” - Marx
