Chapter 4 really hit it's stride with the Baije and spider queen narrative with the sweet but all so so sour story of their doomed-to-fail love story, even with the moral critique you posses of a character like Baije the tragedy of the song can soften even the hardest hearts: heaven parting them for a thousand lifetimes; with Baije wanting to let go and move on, and the spider telling him to remember her time after time. On a different note you may think you're taking too long to make progress in the game and while that is true you have also taken the narrative and stories as an enriching part of the streams, not too different from reading a book a stone throw at a tiime and sharing your thoughts with others because you have a deep interest in the culture; so that's alright Reimu because you're also enjoying the journey and those spectating and commenting can see that and feel that too. Don't lose sleep over dancing to your own rhythms.

Thanks for the stream Chapter 4 is by far my favorite chapter in the game, from the tragic love story of Baije and Violet spider to the bosses and story as a whole it just shines so differently. Also on the animation you can see his story from his first meeting with the violet spider (she's the head maid of the moon princess) to his fall after seeing the Jade emperor and the moonprincess having an affair, to him sneaking in a human village and marrying a girl (which as the animation stated feared him after she learned he's a Pig Yaoguai), to their eventual meeting again when Wukong stole all of the 7 sister's clothes as revenge of them taking Tan zansang, and their reuninting and eventual fall off because he has to kill all of them as per Wukong's instruction (He let his lover live) and has to continue his journey. Its just tragic all around. one last thing that I want to share is the lyrics of the chapter 4's animation named "Listen not": Moonlight on the bridge where we first met, Moonlight on the city tower where we bid farewell. Yearning is the itch between my brows, Year after year I gaze at the familiar, seeking the longest lasting. Surging like the river’s flow, Trepidation like a light boat, With you by my side, This journey is so, so free. Clouds rolling, Clouds unfurling, Clear wind, Sudden rain, From the beginning of spring to the end of autumn, In that moment, I fell in love with everything about you. Forgotten are the newly dug ditches, Remembered are the old familiar patterns, Kindred spirits are the silent embrace, May the night’s words carry on till dawn, always more to say. Noisy like the river’s flow, Peaceful like a light boat, With you by my side, This journey is so, so carefree. Sunset glow, Morning dew, Ephemeral blossoms, Transitory clouds, Night is merely the other side of day, If the wind was misunderstood, how would there be a future? Fleeting like a light boat, Fleeting like a light boat, Desolate like the river’s flow, If you don’t let go / If you do let go, When will this journey find salvation? Joy or sorrow, Blooming or everlasting, Fated but not destined, don’t look back in the next life. True feelings, Hard to keep, Falsehood, Not enough, Being together, In this life, a request, If we meet in the next life, Please don’t look back / Please remember to look back.

In case you don't hate the celestial court enough, here's the backstory of Duskveil. Duskveil was one of the 28 constellation gods, whose true form is a giant rooster. Then he was known as Dawnstar (the one you see on the end of chapter painting/scroll). During the original JTTW he helped Wukong defeat the incredibly powerful female scorpion yaoguai (hence why scorpionlord developed a drinking problem). In BLM's lore, since the celestial court decided to eliminate Wukong, Dawnstar also became a target since he was on Wukong's goodside. He was tricked and killed and turned into the monster being known as Duskvile. The other constellation god who also helped Wukong and suffered a similar fate is Kang-Jin Loong, the dragon lady you fought in chapter 3. Oh, and the white hair dude from the animation is not the Jade emperor, but his son 金乌. Another little Easter egg: after finishing chapter 4, you can go back and find Violet spider's grave. Bajie left her a gift there. We know it can't be anyone else because the item is only in Bajie's possession from the novel.

While there are stories of crossdressing, most if not all the time, it would be done by women who were travelling far away from their hometowns, this is due to the fact that they are afraid of being recognised as women and targeted by criminals and bandits, furthermore, wearing female clothing is sometimes said to curse the male wearer especially if previously worn by a woman this is still prevalent today in some families. Furthermore one of the phrases commonly used on children by parents nowadays that originated from ancient times is that (不孝为三,无后为大) Of the three unfilial acts, not having a descendent is the biggest act. However some scholars have pointed out that the phrase is taken out of context and does not have the exact meaning if placed in the original Confucian Canon, basically like only taking part of the Bible. These is also the reason why in older films/Tv shows, Eunuchs are shown to have power due to their proximity to the royal families yet are bad-mouthed the moment they leave the scene, eunuchs are often given the term(阴阳人)YingYang person, referring to how they are neither Yin or Yang. They are also referred to as slurs such as (人妖)'RenYao' human demon as a way to say they are not natural, though nowadays it is a phrase usually directed at M-to-F trans and crossdressers. Similarly, as pointed out in a previous stream, Long hair was kept by both man and woman without being cut as the body was given onto us by our parents, thus the phrase "身体发肤受之父母”(Body, hair and skin were given onto us by or Parents) thus cutting, damaging your own body on purpose is considered an immoral and unfilial act, this is also if somebody were to ever get isekaied to ancient China, if you were not foreign or tribal looking enough as though you are from another culture, as a person with short hair. they are quite likely to treat you as a criminal/fugitive as only criminals who are banished or similar would have their hair cut or tattooed on, or if they become monks which as mentioned in a previous stream dump, signified that you cut of all ties with your past life and parents and promised to treat all equally.

I forgot which king or emperor did it but from what i remembered, each court meeting have different styles depending on both the dynasty as well as emperor, from what i recall one of them preferred officials that had slender waists, so all the officials (all male of different ages) would end up starving themselves to meet the body criteria, there was also a common rule amongst most dynasties that officials can only walk to the daily morning meetings so they often have to wake up early furthermore, during the Song dynasty, a Emperor would often wear flowers during special events and would bequeath flowers to certain officials thus propagating the idea that men who wore flowers are of a certain status. Of course there have already been records of men wearing flowers before that but the Song dynasty are usually the first mentioned and also because it was a more propagated phenomenon there though I could be mistaken.

Similarly unlike how most shows like to portray an Emperor of China, being an Emperor kinda sucks, especially during the Qing Dynasty, where there were a ton of rules to follow if i remember, the Emperor had to wake up around 4-5 afterwards he would have to go about his duties till 9pm including meetings and mealtime before being allowed to rest, the reason the Qing is used as an example is because while there were historians recording, the previous dynasties did not have much record of an emperors day to day schedule until the Qing took over. Another not so fun fact for those dreaming of being a woman of the emperor, in the Qing Dynasty, the emperors love life is always clearly recorded by a eunuch, this would include how long they did it, what time they started and when it ended, there are even some circulations that the eunuch would have to remind the emperor to only "shoot" at an auspicious time to conceive children though the idea seems to be more on the theory side, however it is supposedly known that other than the empress, to prevent the emperor from being too into women, eunuchs would have a job where they would repeatedly shout for the emperor to stop what he is doing if he is taking too long. The emperor would then have to decide if he wanted to keep the record and give the concubine a chance to conceive, or give her and 'after pill' concoction if he does not want to, the eunuch would then remove the record so as to ensure that all children are the emperors.
@Mythenjoyer5923
@Mythenjoyer5923 Ай бұрын
Furthermore more, while there are many weird emperors, most actually do a good job of running the empire and also not randomly killing people for the simple fact that their brains are working correctly (Most of the more corrupt ones have been at the end of the dynasties and some historians argued that the next dynasties usually made the previous emperors worse to better legitimize themselves), as most if not all children of the Emperor especially the princes would have to tight schedules from the moment they can learn that last the entire day teaching them everything from warfare, economics, geography, politics, martial arts, etiquette, etc. basically as long as it might help them learn to run a empire or kingdom, they have to learn it as all of them might potentially be the next emperor. Additionally killing officials would not help them support the empire and would only be a detriment to themselves, thus all killings done by the emperor had to be done with support from either the people or with enough court officials or they would risk a rebellion. Thus with that knowledge and their upbringing education, emperors would rarely exercise their powers to kill people unless they can do so without doubt As a matter of fact, there are a good number of workaholic emperors that would put many modern CEO's to shame. Other than the fact that most emperors have tight schedules that last the whole day, some do more than others. Examples being the First emperor, Qin Shi Huang, who after work would read 120jin(Qin dynasty version) of bamboo scrolls on state affairs per day.(after conversion to modern Jin and then kg would be around 36kg.) Sui Dynasty SuiWenDi(随文帝) who's officials served the next Tang dynasty would be remarked as “拼命十三郎” it was known amongst officials that the moment he sat down on the throne, he will forget about the concept of time hosting the court meetings all the way past the afternoon forgetting to eat resulting thing in the improvisation of him eating while doing work as he allowed all official rank 5 and above, to talk to him, consider size of China's dynasty. Song Taizong(宋太宗) of the Song Dynasty, who host court meetings at 8am then work all the way til midnight, even for wars he would personally lead the troops sharing meals with the common soldiers, even until he was shoot by an arrow which resulted in lifelong injury that would torture him, he would continue the same lifestyle till his death, even with his schedule, he was noted to have always spared enough time to read 3 scrolls of stories to relax. The founder of Ming Dynasty 朱元璋(jokingly referred to as beggar emperor by some for how he was once a beggar before becoming an emperor) would read up to 200 official documents and 300 affairs ranging from small to large daily. Often working till 3am before sleeping then waking up to restart the cycle of his meetings and work. Then another Ming dynasty emperor (chongzhen 崇祯)who worked so hard his hair turned white and skin had wrinkles in his twenties. Then the triple threat of the Qing dynasty grandfather(康熙kangxi), father(雍正yongzheng),son(乾隆qianlong). Kangxi at the age of 8 took back power from his imperial ward and started to run the empire, he was skilled in both martial and scholar affairs and was known to also be a master of mathematics and medical skills. Yongzheng was known for his economic and political reforms and great results in ruling, known for sleeping less than 4hrs per day, the only time he takes a day off during his birthday. Qianlong was said to have not even be shocked by sudden thunder strikes the moment he became engrossed in his work, even during winter time where the sun doesn't shine he would still be able to wake up on time and was said to never be late for any meetings once in his entire reign, he would start work and discuss state affairs with ministers on time till nighttime, eat his dinner then continue reading and correcting policies and reports, during which, it was said that he still had time to write poetry and read books, excluding this day to day schedule, he would wake up at midnight to start working for special circumstances as well

Outside of novels and such which were used as basically propaganda against the current court of their time, daoist philosophy and its pantheon are mostly loved by the people. Especially in more modern times as people start paying more attention to daoism, even the praising daoism using the phrase "乱世下山救世,盛世归隐深山”(in times of war leave the mountain to save the world, in golden ages hide within the deep mountains) they will also compare daoism to buddhism using “乱世道士下山救世,盛世和尚开门敛财”( daoist leave their mountains in times of trouble to save the world, golden ages the monks open their doors to receive alms" to reference the fact that most times daoist monks would live a hermit lifestyle deep within their mountain temples in times of peace and would only appear in times of war and strife to help the country, whilst the pacifistic buddhist monks would close their doors in times of bloodshed to avoid it but would open their monastery in times of peace.(Not all Buddhist temples avoid war, there are records of monks who would go to war to protect the country),( the yellow turban rebellion was done under the flag of daoism). Thus IRL outside of novels etc. Most stories of daoist deities are of how they protect humans and are kind, with the jade emperor being known as very by-the-book, strict but also benevolent and kind, basically the prime example of who an emperor should be. Similarly while named the emperor, he can be replaced, he works more as an overseer for the Dao(the concept) and is just there to make sure everything runs smoothly. This is because of the way that chinese deities work, all life can become immortals but only those recognised by the Dao and heavenly court become gods. Basically like Wukong, if a Yaoguai was given a titled position in heaven, he would then be a god with his own responsibility. However as mentioned during the GuanYu lore dump, to become a god, you need to achieve 'merits' by being a morally good and righteous person when you are alive. If you have accumulated enough, you might have a chance of going to heaven, and if you have more than the baseline merits and people praying to you, recognising your deeds and praising you as a god, like GuanYu you can become a god, of course often this would be accomplished with the 'son of heaven ie. Emperor of the dynasty' proclamation that you are worthy of such a title.(Usually used to win people over as the emperor also acts as the spiritual connection to heaven) Therefore, most if not all heavenly deities are objectively morally good, as represented in their respective myths and legends. Furthermore, serving on the heavenly court gives them more chances to help people, helping them to accumulate merits which would help them get promoted to a new title,(most gods are referred to by their god name/title, example being Erlang Shen, his real mortal name is Yang Jian 杨戬.) it is also said by some groups that after the current Jade emperor retires or move to a higher level, Erlang is the next in line to become the new Jade Emperor. So yes, as the gods are titles, they can come and go and be replaced if necessary.

Great Stream, Reimu! Could someone explain the celestial beings? Are they gods? Do people still believe in them if they are? I don’t want to ever insult someone’s beliefs when discussing the roles of the people in the game. I was surprised by the reveal of more of Baije’s story. I didn’t know why he was transformed. So please don’t take offense to anything I’ve said in chat. I am just trying to understand Black Myth Wukong and my understanding is it has no bearing on people’s actual belief / faith.
