Hi Tom I gotta say WOW! they are amazing gems you got out of that parcel. I'm so excited for you 👏 Great cutting too with a very nice polish. I would love to share your video too 😊 The girls in the office think this was such a sweet video.

Glad to see that you cut some awesome stones from the parcel. I have always wondered about buying a raw parcel and trying to cut some stones myself. I think that it would be fun to give them to people with an October bday and there are 7 in my family

Well, not an absolute beginner. My grandfather taught me how to make a cabochon, but I had never cut precious opal before. It's not the same as cutting an agate.

You definitely got your money's worth. I didn't do as well on a $5k parcel from Black Opal Direct, but i have learned so much from Justin that it doesn't really matter to me. I don't think I'll ever buy another parcel without holding it in my hand though. Go to the Tucson shows if you want to buy opal and can't get to Australia.

I bought a similar package for $500.00. Yours are much nicer than the ones I got. I found its easy to buy Opal Everywhere, and very hard to sell it. No body wanted my green black opals. I took them to like 20 different shops. Everyone only wants Gold, Red, and Bright blue and green. If I ever did it again, I would only buy top end rough with gold and red colors :) Take them to a pawn shop, or Jewelers District and ask them who buys and sells the most opal. Looks Ike you did a good job cutting the stones you got :) Good Luck

I will have to sell them online. My small town doesn't have anywhere to sell gems.
@erwinrenneboog46614 ай бұрын
You got ripped off, these guys only sell the stones they don't cut themselves because there simply not worth it to be cut. Lets be honest, nobody will pay 100 dollar per carat for the stones you got out off that parcel

@erwinrenneboog4661 but even if he only managed to sell them for $40 per carat then he's made a profit! Are you saying the stones aren't even worth that much on average? (While a couple could maybe do with a bit more shaping imho, generally they look pretty bright and well cut to me, so I wouldn't think he's much risk of losing money.) 🤔

Beautiful stones and think you were smart to keep that batch, there is no guarantee that a heavier batch would have cut better. Nice Job.

So, a clerical error = a typo. Maybe that's American english versus the other side of the pond (went back to the unboxing video to figure that out)
@TomsBackyardWorkshop4 ай бұрын
Its one of the accepted definitions. A broad definition would be any error typically made by an office worker including spelling, math, missing dates etc.

You did a great job for first time cut. The quality of the parcel for price left me a little upset at B.O.D. Justin is a good man a busy man. When your that busy things like this happen. Thanks to Jason all the knowledge I have on opal comes from watching he's channel . I'm a carver not a cutter. I've been carving for 2 years. Recently I was horned to have opal cutter with 30 years experience come look at my work and my workshop he was amazed how I get the job down with hardly any knowledge and tools. The first thing he said to me after my little tourer was this. YOUR INEXPERIENCED SHOWS UP MY EXPERIENCE A THOUSAND FOLD. sorry for rattling on Tom . Opal has changed my life

The conversation should have been I paid for 563 you sent 263 I want my money back and I want my return shipping paid for and I never want to deal with you again. Short weight mistake or not is unforgivable in the Industry. Its a Cardinal Sin, it gets people topped.

typo on the web site very correct of Justin to offer a full refund Sorry your camera was not brilliant for showing the opal couldn't see the green at all and the colours on those opals were blurry so i cant tell how well they cut i really dont think Justin is the type of person who would deliberately set out to sell rip off deals on his website and as you know its a risk you take with any opal I do think that cutting the stones so you could grind out some of the clear areas leaving smaller but brighter more uniform stones could have produced a higher potential value but that will only come with experience as you know
