The review was Awesome and the movie was amazing...shed a tear for Killmonger though, I understand where he is coming from😢 Sad that people on the net are spitting hatred and Venom at this movie just because they didn't want it to succeed...I hope it has the legs to make a Billion👍👍

Love to hear these comments from you two. Well said. It's hard for me to put my feelings about this movie into just a few words, but I agree with y'all 100%! Yes, it's a movie, but then again... it's so much more. I'm so glad you shared! P.S. As an African-American, I love watching all the reactions from around the world... especially from my brothers and sisters who are more recently from the continent. I feel that much closer to y'all.

Why wouldn't you expect it to go well? Me personally, I wanted to see this as it was the final step before the big Avengers movie later this year. Fans will simply go for that, and with most of the Marvel movies doing well why would Black Panther be any different? : ) Have to say a lot of the fight scenes with BP weren't as well presented as they were in Civil War, whether that was because the CGI wasn't quite there or because the night time scenes of a lot of the fights were hard to follow (could just be my age :P) I'm not sure, but they just didn't click for me. Agree with your guys thoughts on BP's little sister Shuri, she was an outstanding character. Loved that role Top half of the Marvel movies pretty easy.

On Friday the 16th of February, 2018, my wife and I went out for dinner for our 23rd Year Wedding Anniversary. We then went on to watch the Black Panther movie! Wow! What a great movie! As a Yoruba man raised in Nigeria [even though I was born and now live in England] the movie spoke to me on so many levels. For just as T'Challa returned home to the African nation of Wakanda to take up his rightful place as king, we're going to be returning to our heavenly homes, to take up our rightful places as kings and queens over the nations, when the Lord comes back on the 16th of March 2018!!! And just like many super heroes, in our glorified bodies, we're going to have the power to fly, walk through walls, manipulate matter and heal people! In the Word we read "...you shall count seven Sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years; and the time of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years [1967-2016]. Then you shall cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound on the tenth day [12th October 2016] of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement you shall make the trumpet to sound throughout all your land. And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year [28th March 2017 -16th March 2018], and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. That fiftieth year shall be a Jubilee to you..." [Lev.25:8-11] I believe we're going to be returning to our possessions and our families on the very Last Day of the Jubilee Year, on the 16th of March, 2018. This is when we should expect to be transformed from mortality to immortality. "Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed- in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." [1 Cor.15:51-53] "...each of you shall return to his possession..." [Lev.25:10] For each of us to return to our possession means to have all our good deeds returned to us in heaven. Because we have eternal life, nothing we do by the Spirit of God is destroyed. Our good deeds, that is, the righteousness we practice here on earth, are gifts we continuously receive from the Lord through His Holy Spirit. These are all being transformed into possessions like garments, jewelry, furniture, mansions, etc, and we'll be returning to them in heaven after the Rapture. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." [Matt.6:19-21] We don't do things for the Lord because we want Him to reward us. We do things for Him because He first loved us and we earnestly want to love Him back. Every righteous act causes the Lord to bless us more and more. "...the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints." [Rev.19:7,8] How many of us can remember every single thing we did for the Lord 5, 10 or 20 Years ago? We've forgotten most of them. The good news is that the Lord hasn't forgotten any of them, for He's storing them up for us and is using them to prepare a place for us in His heavenly Kingdom. The Lord is going to return each of us to our deeds [that is, to our possessions] in this Jubilee Year. "...I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." [John 14:2,3] "...each of you shall return to his family." [Lev.25:10] The Lord is a perfect record keeper, and He can trace our fathers family line all the way back to Adam through Noah! Some of our ancestral fathers would have made it into heaven and others would have not. Of those who made it into heaven we are their promised descendants. Sometimes Christians make the mistake of thinking that because their parents and grandparents are not Christians they came to Christ out of the blue. This is not the case at all. They don't realize that they came to Christ because their great great great grandfathers loved the Lord and are in heaven interceding for them. This is because the Lord promised to give them descendants that will stand before Him in these Last Days. In many cases our ancestors had to wait for many generations before finally receiving descendants in their family line that will stand before the Lord in righteousness. We are the answer to their prayers! "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” [Luke 21:36] "...Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts and done according to all that he commanded you, therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not lack a man to stand before Me forever.”’” [Jer.35:18,19] Think about it. Jonadab from the house of the Rechabites, loved the Lord and taught his children to love Him too. Because of this the Lord blessed him with descendants who are standing before Him to this very day. We're in the final Jubilee of this Age and the Lord is getting ready to reunite us with our ancestral fathers that link us all the way up to Adam through Noah. These are the families we all descended from over the last 6,000 Years! 2017/2018 is the 120th Jubilee since the beginning of time, and the 40th Jubilee since the death and resurrection of Christ in 17/18 AD, which was also a Jubilee Year. My dear brothers and sisters get ready to be part of the greatest family reunion of all time! See you all at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb!

I normally describe myself as, 'I'm BLACKER than 150,000,000 midnights!' And due to my educated understanding of what BLACK is (from my studies while living on The Continent), for anyone who doesn't want to embrace their BLACKNESS, I'll gladly take your share. There was actually a dot on a map in the background of an earlier Avengers movie that might locate Wakanda... It appears to be right around the juncture of Sudan, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. Vibranium isn't just the strongest metal, in Age of Ultron, Ultron states that it's the most *versatile* metal in the world... "and they used it to make a shield." Vision's body is made out of Vibranium, and he can phase through walls. In Civil War, Spider Man says "that thing doesn't obey the laws of physics." It's not so much that it's just strong, it's completely *weird* in terms of physics. Which allows them to have Shuri be able to do just about anything and use "vibranium" as an excuse. Perfect for a comic book movie.

This movie was spectacular. Everything I could have hoped for. I'm half Asian, so I have no hope of representation on this scale anytime soon, so representation-wise, I was living vicariously through you. (On the subject of Asian and half-Asian representation, Mantis of Guardians of the Galaxy is supposed to be half German, half Vietnamese, but the movie people decided to make her an alien, so even though the actress was half Asian, it really didn't count as representation.) Anyway, this is officially my favorite MCU movie. I still say Logan was slightly better among all superhero movies. The movie version of Killmonger is the best supervillain ever. Shuri was adorable. And oh yeah... I knew that mainstream movie audiences would love the _Dora Milaje_ as much as comic book nerds love them. I called it. I did.

Excellent review! Wakanda is the Ultimate Black Wallstreet. This is not a separatist message. But it IS one of group unity and one of owning & controlling and protecting group resources from outside interests. Do what is good toward all people, but especially to those related to you. He who does not take care of is own FIRST, especially those who are members of his own household is the worst of the worst. T'Challa's girlfriend Nikia had the best idea. She convinced T'Challa not to be an isolationist, she got him thinking that Wakanda could do both, that Wakanda had the power and the technology to protect itself and help Black people of the world and join the international community and help the world at large and still protect Wakanda. Eric killmonger had the right motives but wanted to go about it the wrong way. Killmonger had the right motives but the wrong methods. His plan was just to flip the script, kill everybody, men, women & children and become the new oppressor of Non-Blacks. Liberating your own FIRST, is a must, but becoming an oppressor is not the answer. Both were right in places and both were wrong in places. T’Challa was able to evolve and learn from the mistakes of his ancestors and decide to change and not repeat them. T’Challa learned from Killmonger. Don’t forget at the end of the movie he started helping Africans in the diaspora with knowledge of science & technology. Killmonger could not evolve, he had every right to be angry, but he could not temper his rage which if left unchecked would eventually have destroyed everything including Wakanda. he wanted to "Burn It All"! with no thought of the future. We as imperfect humans have the tendency to swing the pendulum from one extreme clear to the other extreme. One should always be seeking the optimum result, the most balanced, effective result for the good of the majority of all concerned. Family first, then everyone else. It is the most profound form of humanity. It is not weak, but Powerful. The truth is, both the T’Challas of the world and the Killmongers of the world are always needed. You need a War Dog when you have no other choice but to fight and defend your people and you also need the diplomat politician to hopefully prevent the need for war. That way you can be both a blessing to your people and the world and have the strength to protect group resources. Only a properly educated & trained people with self-discipline and an advanced form of humanity can be both powerful and humane without becoming the very enemy they seek to defeat.

Allo my Congolese sister! Loved the movie. The only miss to me was the music.I had hoped to hear more African artists from other countries outside SA, Nigerian and lots of hip-hop influence. Not saying it's a bad thing, but in a film about an African country the music could've been more impactful. I was telling my friend in the theater...would've loved to hear Franco & TKO, Mpele, JP Mpiana, Fally, DJ Arafat, other parts of the continent to exposure to the mainstream. They seem to just know Afrobeat...and I have a hate/dislike relationship with that genre

It's not just that vibranium is strong. It has very unusual properties. Many alien technologies are dependent on it. It was those unusual properties that accelerated the development of technology in Wakanda. Fighting off the occasional alien invasion probably didn't hurt.

So it’s a fantasy comic book movie that features a social order which has nothing akin to a democracy as leadership is a function of who can beat up the king in order to become king. It’s also a nation that is intensely nationalist and xenophobia surrounded by a wall. It’s a nation that never bothered to help its neighbors that live in extreme poverty. Lastly it’s also clear that only select people are full citizens while others are not.

Steve Jovan The movie CLEARLY stated as they watched the rest of the world descend into chaos & corruption, they chose to hide Wakanda in plain sight, IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE VIBRANIUM. Not to be selfish. They, no doubt, saved the world with this decision because look at what happens when aggressors find out about powerful substances like vibranium. Also, be honest, if you lived in a beautiful, healthy, poverty-free, wealthy, crime-free, war-free, self-sufficient, etc., nation, whose leaders TRULY places the welfare of its people FIRST, would you REALLY want to expose yourself to the power thirsty, VIOLENT, warmongering modern world?
@yorgure
@yorgure 6 жыл бұрын
Also to add to Stevens point the inner conflict btw thier past and future was clear. Thats why Lupitas character left Wakanda and went on to be a spy helping outsiders. Why the king was pissed with the father in the third act and in the end revealed themselves to the UN. There is Nuance here
@miketheman4341
@miketheman4341 6 жыл бұрын
Harambee Gardens Hint there is no such thing as peace liberty or justice in a form of government where you are ruled by hereditary system in which leadership is a function of who can kill their rival. Secondly if Wakanda can utilize this resource to its benefit why can’t the world? Third for a advanced society it’s remarkable how much xenophobia, Native nationalism and tribalism exists there. A nation in which a lunatic can take control if he can defeat his revivals in combat. What could possibly go wrong? Lastly the fact that all this possible because of some random meteor impact says that they hit the cosmic lottery. Without it this is just another tribal society with no democratic institutions nor advanced technology. In what kind of absurd world no matter how advanced do people forgo their right to self rule and opt for Bronze Age system of government? Who needs a film like Hidden Figures given it’s based upon reality when you can have a fantasy that asks you to suspend logic and reasoning in order to buy into this plot? There is no such thing as an idilic society that operates under autocratic rule. This is why we teach basic political science to college freshman. It’s seems fans of BP are as intellectually sophisticated as most comic book fans. Hint it never explains why it remained hidden except for the excuse that the rest of the world is in turmoil. Except that the world has not been in such turmoil for long periods of time. War is in fact the exception not the rule for 95% of the world. The remaining conflicts are a function of need. Need that technology could change. In order to believe in this plot you really need to suspend all knowledge of how political science functions and history has unfolded. Then again this audience is not made up of doctoral candidates. So yes if I were living under autocratic rule in an isolated society I’d certainly be fighting for access to the larger world. This is North Korea without the starvation.
@miketheman4341
@miketheman4341 6 жыл бұрын
Neeka Yorgure Nuance that says after being isolated for centuries they will reveal themselves? The fact any nation outside of North Korea remained isolated in this age says a great deal about how backward this society truly was. BTW None of that revelation says that they are going to change their internal political structure. Did I miss the part where there are elections coming to Wakonda? Revealing themselves to the world is not the same as sharing technology nor resources. The fact that he does not renounce his rule says that autocratic rule has nothing to do with the problem of this society. Something any freshman political science student knows is absurd.

From Senegambia (Senegal & Gambia). I enjoyed the movie for what it is (sheer entertainment) but I do not think there is a need to dress up for it in our African clothing. This is a white supremacist propaganda movie and the only one that will benefit are white people who own Marvel Studios and its parent company (Disney). If anything, the real hero of this movie is Killmonger who wanted to dismantle white supremacy and liberate his people worldwide. We are told that, this African country and its people spend centuries hidden from the outside world away from white colonialism hence why they were able to focus on themselves and develop. Yet, not only did they allow a white man to know the country's secrets and showed him the light (what they refused Killmonger - who was trying to use it for all his people), the main savior at the end was that same white man. Not only that, TChalla then went to the racist UN at the end of the move - which is nothing but the right hand wing of the West and delivered a speech proclaiming that his country's assets will be shared with the entire world including the white racist countries who have looted and raped Africa and disfranchised all black people, and continue to do so to this very day (and please don't get me started on China). He had no problem sharing his country's assets with the racist western world but refused Killmonger who wanted to use it to advance and liberated all black people around the world. This movie is nothing more than a white racist propaganda trying to give Africans and Black people a super hero yet pulling the strings from underneath us. This is not the movie that Africans and black people around the world deserve. It is all set up. It is all propaganda by white supremacists, and I urge Africans to open their eyes and not be fooled. This is not the movie we deserve. By all means we can enjoy it for its sheer entertainment value if that is what people want to do, but there is no need to go over the top dressing up for it, holding parties, etc. Many of our great African filmmakers have created great African movies over the decades which are rich in content and cultural heritage. I would rather we give those African filmmakers our passion, money and reverence than this double sided movie designed to indoctrinate us. This is not the movie we deserve and it saddens me when I see Africans and black people going over the top for this movie. We should not let others tell our story or set our narrative, but we should tell/set them ourselves, and that starts with owning our studios and talent, believing in them and investing in them. Just because a white company has made this movie filled with black talent does not mean they have our interest at heart.

Our ancestors were not sold into slavery dumb nut! The Europeans kidnapped Africans all over Africa. Africans didn’t speak English so how Europeans and Africans communicate? Or did they take over Africa and colonize it like they did America. Stealing it from the native Americans! Don’t be dumb like the Europeans said!

An honest review of “Black Panther”. Or, how to ruin a good movie in the last five minutes … Spoilers. Spoilers Mean There Are Things In The Movie I Could Discuss That You Might Not Want To Know About Before Seeing The Movie Yourself Okay, saw “Black Panther” and... I enjoyed it. It was a good movie. Not like “Guardians of the Galaxy” good or “Ant Man” good but I had a good time. The word that came to mind was “solid” It was what one should expect from an MCU movie. No less. But then again, no more really either. That is UNTIL the last five minutes of the movie. When that started I wanted to yell out into the theater NO! (But I didn't because I am not black so I know how to behave in public). The movie was ending. It was like I said a good movie. They were just wrapping things up. But it seems that part of wrapping things up was Now let's RUIN THE MOVIE. I hate when I come out of a movie thinking, I could have written it better. And for the most part I found the writing well solid. But I wish I could have been in that Marvel boardroom when the script was being finalized. I would have demanded that they handed over the last few pages to me for a re-write. Here's how I would have handled the wrap up scenes. There would be a scene where T'Challa goes to Commander Ross (I wonder if he is any relation to General Ross) and ask him “so what are you going to tell your Langley”. “Nothing” Commander Ross would reply. “A shield here or there yeah, fine, but the amount vibranium under Wakanda, no, not with the all Tony Starks out there in our world. It's too much power. I can't trust Langley, I can't trust the Avengers. Only a man who have proved his commitment to responsibly like you have I would trust with such great power. See there I would have subtly mentioned the fact that Captain America's shield is made of vibraium (Easter egg for those in the know at least) and included a vague reference to the events of “Age of Ultron”. And a non sue-able Uncle Ben reminiscent quote to boot. Then I would have had a scene where T'Challa is talking to his sister or his girlfriend. “He was right in one respect” The world is becoming too small not to get involved. But we must do it still from the shadows. We can help the rest of the world but we must do so with a light touch. We can carefully guide them into their better selves. But we can't reveal our true nature to the world. Not yet. Not all at once. This world can't handle it. But still we can do good. Also, it would have been a good scene, between credit scene where I was thinking first Captain America because it would explain his absence but then I thought perhaps not Cap because I don't think he could be in a position to even get an clue of what is coming but Doctor Strange we know is putting out these feelers And wouldn't it be cool for Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch to be in the same movie even as indirectly as this would be. So yeah, let's make it Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange “Your highness.” T'Challa “where did you come from? (because of course Doctor Strange appeared out of nowhere as we know he can do) “ I come here with a warning” There's a storm coming. I can't see its form quite yet, but still I sense it coming. There's a great evil that is about to consume this shared world of ours”. T'Challa “Well whatever is coming strange man I promise you this WAKANDA WILL BE READY”. Can you imagine the cheers that would come out of the remaining audience! And then keep the Bucky scene. By the way, why do they call him “white wolf”? Didn't think there were any wolves in Africa. So wouldn't they call him something in their frame of reference. But, no. not to be the writers decided - Let's Ruin this movie. Or to be more precise not this movie as like a was saying it was all but over. But ruining every future movie Black Panther or Wakanda is in. I so could see a part in Infinity War whee all seemed lost and the Avengers and the others fighting with them at this part of the movie seem up against the ropes...here comes the Wakanda Ships. “Who the Hell are these guys”? Iron Man would say. Captain America would look at him with a look “I don't know”. Of course he does know who they are but he isn't going to tell Tony. And they start kicking butt and turning the tide. It would be a great But Nope. By the way, the scene where T'Challa stupidly makes the Wakandan ship appears and all the blacks who were playing basketball surround it. You have to give the writers credit for portraying the blacks realistically here. Their first thought was to steal it. That is realistically how blacks would act in such a situation. A few quick additional comments. Yeah, there were a few anti white statements in this movie that I found Jarring in that it shock me out of the MCU for a moment but they weren't egregious so whatever, get it out of your system. And, also I don't know it I should even mention it since perhaps we just need to give the writers poetic license since with no conflict no movie but I would hope that this is brought up in the “how Black Panther should have Ended” youtube video that is sure to be made. T'Chaka could have prevented this conflict quite easily had he just had someone follow his nephew around as he grew up. I mean that was what he did with his brother, so why not his son? Seems like pretty strong plot hole to me. But then again no conflict no movie. But they way. I picture in the “How Black Panther Should have ended” you tube having Obi Wan Pop up because of course that's what he did with Luke. I don't think he ever came in direct contact with Luke because it seems like Luke barely knew him, but I believe it is safe to assume that from the shadows he kept tabs on Luke. And that is what T'Chaka could have done with his nephew. It was well established that Wakanda had their spies everywhere so that wouldn't have been too hard. Just keep tabs on Killmonger, make sure he is okay, help him out without him knowing it. Problem solved. To sum it up all and all a good movie RUINED by a BAD ENDING. But apart from that a good subversion of the real life trope of the reality of Blacks as a people being intellectually inferior to everyone else in the world. Yep, only in fiction...
