As much as I consider THE DARK KNIGHT my favorite superhero film with LOGAN right behind it.... BLACK PANTHER had a better origins story than even Batman Begins had and I LOVE that origins story. It was just SO AWESOME to see a Prince become a KING. Following tradition and M'Baku battling him for the throne. As much as I love Batman.... I never saw Bruce Wayne give daps to someone like T'Challi did with his sister. JUST THAT ALONE made me fall in love with the film. "My King" -Shuri "Stoooop it" -T'Challa EPIC HAND SHAKE X

About the Alt-Right take on this... Wakanda has been an isolationist, protectionist, homogeneous nation for centuries as it had to defend itself during the Age of Imperialism and all that entailed for Africa. The whole point of Black Panther's story in this movie is that he, and his circle, realize that Wakanda has to come OUT of isolation to support the rest of the world. I thought that the scene when T'Challa literally goes to the afterlife and confronts the spirits of ALL the previous Black Panthers about this error spelled this out very clearly, the movie wasn't even subtle about it. Basically, Black Panther is showing the Alt-Right they're fundamentally wrong.

The "Alt Left" is by and large a vague but scary concept, a "whataboutism" tool of the alt right to point at and say "that other side is just as bad as we are". It's false, like most of the fear-mongering stuff the alt right promotes. If it actually existed today, it would be considered ideologically just left of center by late 60s-era standards.

Sammy's point at the end there was spot on. Black women - black people in general - being seen as positive role models or influences in popular media for people of all races is so heartwarming to see! @MrEherndon57 жыл бұрын
Michael Lau it's not many Chinese great box office films if any.
@pascha1207 жыл бұрын
Michael Lau 'Black Panther' was able to showcase Black actresses/actors of different nationalities from all around the world, and this is exactly the case with the soundtrack too. There are 54 countries within the continent of Africa (w/ a huge diaspora too); in contrast, China is one country within the continent of Asia (which is made up of 48 different countries). I'd much rather see a Marvel film showcasing all kinds of Asian people from different nationalities (including Chinese) working together to defeat a common enemy, but it's up to Marvel to move forward and write that comic book/script. Also, the release of that film would be heavily dependent on whether the cashed up Chinese Communist Party film censors want to be global players (rather than myopic isolationists... sounds a bit similar to Wakanda before they realised it was better to be a global player/help others no?), and allow such a film to be released in China.
@Sleven777 жыл бұрын
True, and if they are a hit, it's only in Asia. I watch movies from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. There are some good movies, but few I would recommend to my American friends.
@Sleven777 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that wasn't the first time. They got screwed with Iron Man 3 as well. The Mandarin could've been played by an East Asian actor. When I wrote about my displeasure on a comic book forum, I got a lot of heat. People said that I was being too selective and not satisfied even when an Asian was cast to play the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). Kingsley is half white and half Indian. Not all Asians are the same. That showed people's ignorance. Andy Lau, a famous actor from Hong Kong was originally cast to play a doctor/Tony Stark's friend. He could've played the Mandarin. Lau eventually backed out of the role once he realized how little screen time he got. Lau was in that Great Wall movie with Matt Damon.
@Sleven777 жыл бұрын
I agree. To be honest, there's not enough Asian American actors to be had in an all Asian cast. Hollywood will need to go domestic and international. The only Asian character I can think of is Shang-Chi who happens to be a member of the Avengers. He won't be getting a movie any time soon. He's more for Netflix. China's censorship in movies can be overblown. Most Disney movies are China friendly. Just don't have too much violence, sex, and don't talk shit about the government.

I love the dialog in this movie and there are a pair of lines that solidify Killmonger as the villain for me, regardless of how sympathetic they made him. In his vision when he meets his father, Wakanda is described as having the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Then later on when Eric takes the throne he says that "the sun will never set on Wakanda". It seemed like Killmonger was metaphorically destroying the thing his father loved most about his homeland.

The funny thing is I keep on hearing Americans say I wanna go to wakanda a fictional country. As a person who travels to Africa often, there might not be flying spaceships, Vibrainium Warrior Kings or Vibrainum Rhinos but there there is plenty of nice countries that resemble Wakanda lifestyle in Africa now. Ghana might as well be Narnia a fictional place because the Western media never report on it or any nice African country because Ghana is the African country that most dispels the western stereotypes about Africa. When Hollywood made a movie about Ghana it was called Beasts Of No Nation about a war torn African country with child soldiers. Ghana has never had a bloody civil war or child soldiers yet Hollywood depicted it that way. Ghana is a stable, safe, friendly African country with no ebola that is said to be the first African country that will reach first World status in the next few decades with oil being discovered there. It has free educated and universal healthcare something Americans don't even have and many Americans descend from there. Yet most African Americans have ever been there or heard of it because the place is too nice to be covered by the western media who much rather cover countries that have civil wars, dictatorships, ebola or Terrorist or Pirates kidnapping people. Africa has 2 billion people and over 50 countries and thousands of tribes and many countries in Africa are not shitholes they are in fact rich.

21:30 - 22:00 I agree with Coleman. Nothing wrong with folks appreciating their natural hair, because folks like me and Coleman know that natural hair is beautiful. Sadly, many times folks try to change the natural and end up leaving it worse off, many times because of society and bias from other folks. Many folks spend a lot of money and time actually ruining their hair when the look they had naturally was cheaper, less time-consuming, lower maintenance, and looked mighty fine. Afro hair is some of the most unique and amazing textured hair in the world. I think more folks should celebrate it, not waste time and money making it look like most everyone else's and making it unhealthy. Now I am a fellow that tries to respect and see the point of view of others, especially when it is concerning them and their own bodies. If folks don't like their hair out in its natural state, there are styles they can try that don't require you to change the texture of your hair. For example, there are braids, twists, dreadlocks, and something called brotherlocks (if you are male) and sisterlocks (if you are female) which look like a combination of braids and dreads with the neater and thinner plaits of braids with the long-hanging and permanent style of dreadlocks. Think dreadlocks with thinner locs. But if folks still want to have straightened hair, then there are some natural relaxers that are free of the harmful chemicals that regular relaxers have. One such product is called Natural-Laxer MIX by Baka Beauty Products International.
@Matt-rm5ir7 жыл бұрын
Swell Character I think everyone is willing to appreciate and accept natural hair, I know I do, but I think the issue is that doesn't mean they have to like it. Most people don't like the natural hair, and we can't force them to like it or dislike it. We can all accept, but we can't all like the same things.
@spacewolfblackmane197 жыл бұрын
But really though aside from a work place where a certain hair style is required/not allowed by the owner when is "society" or random everyday people just going to stop you and go "damn girl your natural hair is some shit. Best go cover it up." Because i have seen bitches walk around broad daylight with multicolored hair literally fucking clown hair and no one gives them even a side wades glance.

And Killmonger was the Magneto to T'chala's Xavier. Killmonger might be in some Wakanda life support. He's the best villain since Loki. They'll bring him back.

The Kickstarter campaigns they did for "underprivileged youth"in my area of Boston all the way down to New York sold out multiple theaters which was great that's awesome!!! BUT... When you got a few high school girls up there saying on the Local News Network after being asked, How do you feel about going to see Black Panther? Are you excited?!! This was 3 different girls and 2 guys responding, with one girl doing most of the talking. She was 18 "this movie is going to make Black History, it's the best thing in the world, you know what I can't wait to see it, "I'm especially excited for when Black Panther kicks that Iron Man's Ass and kicks that Captain America, his little bitch ass spinning damn thing, you got there" "his shield Maria, his shield" "Yeah!!! I know it's his, his, his Fuckin shield and he just gonna shove it right up his ass" "All them damn lil Advengers ah gonna get wrecked by my man's Black Panther" Obviously the swears were bleeped out this was a live news interview. I'm not joking. I witnessed this at the moment I was there, along with several of my friends, who are watching the news at the same time. It was Fuckin hilarious, just the fact that people don't even know what the movie is about. They're just going to see it because of what everyone else is saying about it or what they're saying it is... To me that's just really sad.

I can see why people want more Killmonger, because he’s a very compelling character. But there isn’t much for him to DO - he’s a villain who won the argument even if he lost the battle. T’challa is opening up Wakanda and reaching out to aid other communities.
@SincerelyTyTaylor7 жыл бұрын
I think yall got the whole premise of Killomonger incorrect. Killomonger came as an African American who's woke and mad that Wakanda has all of the technology and fire power but decide to ignore African Americans who are in America dealing with racial bullshit. He was the Huey P. Newton. Wakanda was focused on separating themselves from those who weren't from Wakanda. He wasn't a villain in my opinion. His tactic was aggressive but his message is the same message black folk in America preach today.
@CanadianJames7 жыл бұрын
Sincerely Ty Taylor he’s not really a villain just someone who mishandled his goal due to past anger issues and CIA training
@retrograveproductions41757 жыл бұрын
yes i dont consider Killmonger a villain either. Antagonist, Anti-Hero maybe. His methods were extreme, but, guess who thought him that, the CIA. Been training humans to be killers since the beginning. His methods were eye for an eye, do onto others what is done unto you.

Yeah I don't know about this whole - Kilmonger being compared to Trump. And I am not a Trump supporter nor voted for any major party. Kilmonger is a self made man to begin with, that didn't dodge the military with the medical excuse of having "bone spurs" on his foot and not knowing which foot has them to the press lol.

Yall kinda miss so much, Suri told him the suit was taking bullets and has excess power to release, he didn't need to do much to jump and back flip off the car and cause it to crumple. You guys need to watch this movie again and reel and come again. The rhinos were absolutely awesome to me in spite of the CGI errors which I didn't find that bad or different from other marvel movies, so I'm way past that.

As a citizen of Wakanda, I would be really upset that our leadership is so damn fragile. Not to mention how the king goes on dangerous covert missions all the time.

U don’t understand they were never colonised so they weren’t influenced by the western so they kept to tradition and mixed technology because of Shuri
@smartmouth44447 жыл бұрын
I can see that as an argument as to why they still have a monarchy. Also helping your point is how much they are so steeped in tradition. But come on man. They could have done something that doesn't leave as much animosity and division as killing your sibling, friend, or cousin.
@samcherry47417 жыл бұрын
To be fair things like American elections leave about as much animosity and division as ritual combat does, sometimes more. The only difference is the individual and they don't even really prefer the death it's just there for tradition. Even to that end we have less advanced technology but still let a bunch of terrible stuff happen for traditions sake too so it's not much better in the West.

I agree with Coleman. Killmonger just wanted to get to the throne. Once he got there, he was just too angry at literally everything to have any rationality left.

They kind of had to unify together with the rest of the World in this movie just to wrap it up, pretty much because of Thanos coming in Infinity War... It's just a Prelude to that. That's why I wish we got a Black Panther movie a long time ago. It wouldn't seem so forced...

For what it’s worth, Killmonger at one point did die and was resurrected by The Mandarin in the comics. If they decided to bring him back, we could get a proper Mandarin as well with him still being at large after that one shot “All Hail the King.”

My first watch of Black Panther was with a regular audience but my 2nd viewing was where I was invited to an private screening event and the audience was probably 95% Africans who had come over to Australia to study and work and I was one of the 10 or so non African audience members there. The difference in viewing experience was very interesting, especially during specific nods to African culture that were sprinkled through the movie that regular audience completely missed but sent the whole theatre at the event into hysterics and my mates had to explain the details to me after the movie was over. Now I'm really curious to compare the reactions of an African audience to an African American audience.

it was a good movie.. It was a very different marvel movie, good job on the cast and director for really making a world here. I even thought the villain in killmonger was one of the best ones cause he was actually probably the most relatable one of them all, ironically enough. And i even liked how the tone of the movie changed when he was involved. " Hey Aunty!" I died!

I have to disagree about the Aesthetics of the city... Some of those buildings look like buildings you can see in modern London. Yes it was beautiful they did a good job but they could have made Wakanda look a bit more advanced.

@ShinigamiNTW7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree that the rhinos were weird, but I feel like they were SUPPOSED to be a stalemate breaker. I noticed that before M'baku showed up, the warrior count on both sides went from about even to being mostly W'kabi's men left. I guess the rhinos were meant to be the reason they got that big of an advantage... But they could have easily broken the stalemate with something less goofy, like more ships or a weapon.
