Than you I really want to make pottery like yours from the the Earth like you but in my town or anywhere near by i can't find the clay in the ground .. thank you great in
@yaayaa958 жыл бұрын
Hi Sondra! If you live near rivers or streams look along the streams or construction digs you may be able to find clay there. It may not be on the surface or visible from the surface and you will have to dig below the topsoil. There are videos here on yt about how to tell when you find clay and whether it is going to be good to work with. You can also buy commercial clay--while you do not have the connection of digging it yourself it is an easier place to get started because it is prepared, you know what temperature to fire it to, and you can work with local potters to fire your pots. Clay straight from the ground has to be tested to know what temperature works best for it to create strong and lasting pieces. It is important to keep in mind too that Marvin Martinez grew up watching and being around potters, you learn bit by bit over a long time from the experts who keep on the tradition and pass it to you. Unless you have that community and that mentorship from people who know what they are doing your learning will be through trial and error and can be very frustrating and not get you very far. I would recommend trying to find local artists or potters to help in exchange for their mentorship. If you are going to need to do this solo you will either need a lot of time and money, physical strength and patience, or go the more westernized way of buying prepared clays and glazes and a kiln, or finding a pottery studio to fire your pots. Best of luck, it is a wonderful craft.

6:39 blackening method. you can do this with wood and smother the fire with soil instead of horse dung I think.

In Lithuania we traditionally do the carbonisation with pine firewood of high content of resin. But generally the tehnology of firing is the same. WSe have this tradition not broken for 3000 years or so. These items shown in this video are very beautiful. Exelent work!
