When I saw the inventor of the Balance deck first show me his deck, he was running 4x Factories, 4x Jade Statue and 4x The Rack. So seeing that Balance/Jade Statue in the same deck brings back memories. The Factories were sub par and the Statue was awful in practice. Instead I made it a turbo Balance deck running fast spells, either Instants/Sorceries I could drop from my hand quickly as well as Chains Of Mephistopheles and I scattered a few In The Eye Of Chaos and Land Equilibrium to lock people down into taking The Rack damage. This was during 4th Edition. I won a lot of matches with 4x Balance and determined that this card was even more busted than Mind Twist.

Fantastic match! Fun to watch. I'm always struck by how interesting Alpha playtesting must have been when I see these A40 matches.

True, the early sets seem overall so balanced (with the usual exceptions of course). I remember playing endless mono coloured games with my revised decks when I just started playing 👌

The experience is quite replicable. Just get six-ten packs of the same set, best results is to use some kind of Core set, and make decks against other people who do the same thing. Then allow trading within the pod. You'll start trading for Craw Wurm type of cards. Unusual cards like dual lands and such will be undervalued while juicy vanilla creatures or combat tricks will be highly value. Cards you would normally build around when you can get 4x copies for your powerful deck and normally would be an expensive and high value card will be low value while the entire player base's card pool might not even have 4 copies.

@@TimmytheSorcerer indeed! I've yet to see an actual Black Lotus in person. Nobody I knew owned one back in the day and shops didn't have them. Saw the other power 9 but never a Black Lotus. As I got older I never went to tournaments and stuff. Magic became kitchen table for me. Maybe I'll just have to buy one!! 🤪 If my wife is reading this, I'm just kidding. 🤣

Hi Timmy, how does pestilence work with Drudge skeletons regeneration. Do you have to regenerate for each one damage from Pestilence. Or once for all damage from pestilence that turn.
