I have lived here in Lake Oswego for 70 years. I have never seen a Black person before. Is that weird?
@thomaskim477 Жыл бұрын
No, the population is only 3-5% in Oregon, and Oregon has been the Black exclusionary state..

I am from LA and have been in Oregon almost 20 yrs. It's unfortunate that this man has brought some bias with him. I have been to LO many, many times. I've eaten at restaurants with people a many different races and shopped at stores. I have friends who live there and have always felt welcomed. If someone has a problem with you living there, it's their problem. When I first moved here I was one of the first black people in this neighborhood. It may not be as exclusive as LO but I never had any problems. I worked nights at first and was single so on my days off I was out and about late at night. I have had interactions with police but those have been 100% better than most LA cops and I am usually armed. Enjoying my full rights as a citizen. I feel sorry for this man carrying the burden of other people's hang ups. I know people of various races who live there and they fully enjoy the pleasant aspects of LO, but it is an expensive place. No matter where you live in the US from Palm Springs to Seattle's exclusive neighborhoods, There will always be idiots with something to say. It's a free country. Ignore them.

You are exactly what’s wrong with society....dismissing the truth! If LO was so great why was it called “Lake No Negro” you are trying to assimilate so bad that you’d stand for nothing and fall for anything. Just because you haven’t faced racism doesn’t mean others in your community aren’t.

Sir.. you know that Oregon was a whole sundown town. Black people weren’t allowed to live in Oregon including slaves. There was branch a KKK branch that exist until the early 90’s in North portland. I honestly don’t have to use like at least 4 logical fallacies. They’re never going to accept you. Good for you that you’re experience has been so great… I gonna assume like ALOT of Black you date only White women.

This is bullshit. I love my city. People have also been great. The police always wave and are very polite. Also people are most likely asking questions because we are such a close community and everyone knows everyone. Lake Oswego is a beautiful city, just come visit and see for yourself.

He must notice how people look at him. It's something you won't experience if you aren't black. Some people are still scared of all black people because of negative things they see or hear about us. Simple things like jogging at night and wearing a hoodie will look more suspicious if you're black because of the bad stereotypes.
@GG-sk3tw9 ай бұрын
Ahmaud Arbery was literally shot while jogging in broad daylight. I’m from LO and while it is way more tolerant than it used to be and there is a much bigger community of allies you are still going to have people who are ignorant and/or outright racist who find a black man jogging through their white neighborhood as suspicious and they may act on those suspicions.

Hey dude im a Gujarati Indian, who lived in lake Oswego for nearly 7 years, most of the people here are really chill. I have had one racist incident, which at the local Safeway parking lot where some old white dude told me to go back to my country. Bear In mind this was back In 2016 after the election and tensions were pretty high. However, there was this really nice white old lady who came to console me and I really appreciated it. I do get weird looks from time to time, but that is mostly from the older people, most of it seems out of curiosity. In general I have never felt unsafe in this area.

As a U. S. born citizen of the Hispanic culture, I too believe I have seen & felt the sting of racism here in the coastal region of Oregon for the last 2 years. It's like Unemployment in the state of Oregon won't pay you benefits that as a citizen you'd be entitled to only because of my last name. I've worked jobs here but it's definitely clear Oregon does not want to see other cultures succeed here.

This shows up in my feed like it happened yesterday. In either case, Lake Oswego is beautiful, clean, friendly, and lacking the high crime you see in surrounding areas. It’s a nice community, unlike anything BLM and it’s racist antics, along with the rioting and violence, could ever hope to provide. Maybe, just maybe, the person asking you to take the sign down wasn’t racist at all. Maybe they just don’t like the bs and brainwashing blm spew in every breath they breath and word they utter. Last, why can’t you jog at night? Try jogging up Country Club Rd. The only thing you have to worry about is tripping on a opossum in the dark. At least it’s lit, wide, and safe. Or, if you really prefer, you can try se 82nd at night and see where you feel safest.

@alexhoneybee96772 жыл бұрын
It's people like you who are a real problem. You spew false info instead of taking time out to LEARN and UNDERSTAND. And no. I'm not part of BLM before you assume. However. BLM is no different from any other race trying to bring attention to inequality towards race issues. There is nothing wrong with advocating for equality. BLM gets a bad rep because there are a lot of BAD SEEDS in the organization. There are bad seeds in every organization that make the WHOLE organization look bad as a whole. Not every black person vandalizes and shoots at police. Just like Not every person in the KKK went around burning crosses and lynching - however there were people in the kkk who believed in rights for their race, and that’s okay. Be careful you are not labeling an organization as bad based on the indecent activity of ‘SOME’ people in that organization. Love the name by the way. smh
