@NihilQuest3 жыл бұрын
Lyrics are different but more importantly the vocal melody is different, which makes it a very different song. It shows how much intput Ozzy had into writing songs in Sabbath. There are still people who claim Ozzy didn't write anything. People, melodies don't fall from the sky with a set of lyrics, you have to create them. David is clearly a good singer, but Ozzy is the guy with the ability to create memorable melodies and that's what is missing from this version.

@iangiedrojc3 жыл бұрын
@@emeraldsabbath8507 I like both versions too, Dave has a cool voice and he did put some melody there. It's just that the melody on Ozzy's version is distinctive, catchy, it's a hook. Both the verse and the chorus melody are very easy to remember instantly. Ozzy was a master at that (when he didn't sang along the riff that is).
@HenryCovertsDeepImages2 жыл бұрын

You re right....its anti-creationist in its scope. Its already clear that Ozzy is,better; nevermind that this is a raw, hasn't been given touches that production tends to alter. Listen to kneel and pray by deep purple, the raw version of what became SPEED KING...and shut up
@burtonrivera52532 жыл бұрын
Saying that Ozzy s a master melody-maker is one of the most obvious excuses that he was actually replaceable...the melodies account for the feel of song to a degree, but aren't the other musician putting their "feel" into the production as well?

Finally!! My search of over 30 years is over!! Ever since I first heard this song from the crudest versions to this I’ve tried to figure the lyrics but never could. Couldn’t find anyone who knew them. I even asked Geezer in person in 2008 when I meet H&H at a meet & greet and he didn’t even know. As the qualities kept getting better and words more clearer I was about 70% complete. Finally my search is over!! I wish we could hear a great cover version or Dave sing it with the guys again!! This is interesting to hear, I do like Dave Walker with Savoy Brown but he really doesn't fit into the Black Sabbath mold & sound. Hearing this version really shows just how much Ozzy brings to the table with all his vocal melodies. The parts here where Dave stops singing on the chorus I believe is one of the parts where Ozzy really belts out a melody that brings such emotion to this song. That is what is missing ... the emotion Ozzy brought to this song. To be honest though & objective, I bought Never Say Die when it came out when I was 13 and wore the LP out so hearing a different structure with the melody & certain lyrics missing sounds dull & is lacking the dark sadness Ozzy brought to this song. Dave Walker is better in a straight up Blues/Rock Band. He is sort of a strange fill in for Sabbath. I can whistle Ozzy's vocal melodies but would never be able to whistle what Dave Walker is singing here.

The rest of Sabbath were not exactly impressed when Ozzy asked to return to the band after a very brief "break". Looking at the material the band had created in his absence, Osbourne flatly refused to use these original lyrics and so the band had to "re-type" the new Juniors Eyes to fit and thus the second helping of the song is re-written about the death of Ozzy's father who had recently passed. And of course .....Ozzy was fired from the band a short time later.
