Melhor vocalista que o Sabbath teve, todos possuíam grande brilho, mas só esse cara interpretava qualquer era sem forçar, a demo de Eternal Idol na voz dele faz o disco com o Martin parecer desmerecedor, fantástico o Martin, mas essa fase Hard Rock do Iommi, era pra voz do Gillen, perfeito pro trabalho

Renato D.O. A meu ver o timbre do Martin se encaixa mais a musicalidade do Sabbath. Gillen como vc mesmo disse é mais melódico e com uma tacitura mais voltada ao hard. Martin no Eternal Idol simplesmente teve que seguir praticamente as mesmas linhas vocais do Gillen a pedido do Iommi. Nos álbuns seguintes que vc percebe a maestria dele. Ambos gigantes. Mas ao vivo Gillen era uma aula msm.

@@gnrnando88 mas acho que era o que eles queriam mesmo na época, se enquadrar nessa era dos anos 80 de vocal mais melódico, mais voltado ao hard com mais agudos e tal, igual ao que o Kiss e o Whitesnake fizeram. Tava fuçando vídeo sobre o Sabbath agora no KZbin no meio dessa fase dos anos 80 que eles trocaram de vocalista pra cacete, se você parar pra ver, pelo material e vídeos que eles soltaram mesmo com o Hughes e outros... pega aquela "No Stranger to Love", por mais que seja balada, é uma boa música... NADA A VER com o Sabbath do Ozzy e do Dio, mas eram boas músicas, inegável. Só essas viúvas do Ozzy e do Dio que negam essa fase

BDO U. Sem dúvida amigo. Boa análise. Realmente essa fase anos 80 tentou seguir os moldes do mainstream da época - principalmente influenciado pelo hard rock/glam americano. Vocais agudos, reverb na batera e um heavy metal mais melódico mesmo. O próprio NWOBHM apresentava esse heavy mais comercial, e mesmo bandas tradicionais do estilo, na época abusaram de uma sonoridade mais acessível as rádios, como foi o caso do Judas, Rainbow e outras. Tanto faz sentido, que mesmo as bandas de heavy metal que estavam surgindo na época possuíam essas características mais marcantes, como foi o caso do Queensryche, Malmsteen, Stryper e Savatage por exemplo.

The cd (with this live radio show and the Gillen-Eternal Idol tracks) is/was only available as a bootleg for years. It can be found here on youtube, collector circles, and obviously other download sites online. The "Radio show" (San Antonio, TX) had 6-7 live Sabbath cuts with Ray, but was never officially released due to licensing rights or some crap like that. in 2011, there was a deluxe version of Eternal Idol released officially that has the Ray Gillen version of the album (much more cleaned up), but does not contain THIS live show (again, has to do with licensing rights or some legal stuff).

I sure know Bob Daisely did a Hughe contribution to this , as wel as on MANY other albums (e.i Ozzy & Rainbow) But Ray not being capeable of writing is simply NOT true. As an excample, an interview with Jake E Lee explanes quite clear that Ray Gillen had the talent to just improvise on the spot... And by doing so came up with Awesome lines and lyrics for Badlands. I think Ray simply didnt have had the time to work things out for the Sabbath album, replacing Glenn Hughes didnt give him much time&space....
