He really shoulda quite while he was ahead, huh? (hehehe)

I believe that is what really made it for the actors too. Rarely do you get to deliver lines like this and im this way, the writing is just pure gold. Deadwood might be anither that really stands out with its dialogue.

​@@eve_l Because it was on STARZ (premium cable network owned by Lionsgate at the time, which didn't have a large number of subscribers, nowhere close to the likes of HBO or even Showtime) and had Micheal Bay's name attached to it (at a time when his name wasn't exactly too hot) and people really didn't know what it was and most didn't even give it a chance. I was there from day one and I can tell you the people who watched this show, WATCHED this show and knew even back then that it was something special.

Fun fact: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes, had once described Ned Low as savage and desperate, and a man of amazing and grotesque brutality. He was only active as a pirate for three years, but had such a reputation for being a brutal torturer and murderer. And to this day, there's still speculation as to how he actually died.

"(You get) A head start" is a top tier favorite Vane moment for me. I loved that Vane took Lowe out quickly before Lowe became an annoying villain who stays beyond his usefulness to the story (*cough*RamseyBolton*cough*). Miranda's line "You don't know what you've seen" sums up Flint and what the audience thinks they knew about him based off season 1. Eleanor's decision making can be frustrating. When she should follow her heart, she goes with logic and when she needs logic, she follows emotion instead.

Great reaction! I think Vane obviously cares for Eleanor, but he needed a good reason to get his crew on board so was gathering information about the prize etc... Also he likes conquering shit and killing people! I like shows that do this with their tough guy characters, gradually you get to see more depth to characters that initially look very one dimensional. It's the same reason why Amos is always a fan favourite in the expanse

New Low was one of the actual pirates in this series. No one really knows what happened to him. But he for sue wasn't killed by Charles Vane. The real Vane was hung before Low became a pirate.

This episode was amazing and Vane is one of my favorite characters. It's hard for me to recall how I felt at the start about Vane having watched the entire thing a couple times and Vane gets better as the series progresses, but this was an awesome episode. It reminds me if these guys would just talk and communicate they could solve their problems without going to the extreme with every situation. Angered Charles Vane is hilarious and a way to let people know you are a badass. I've always felt Black Sails was slept on if it was on HBO it would've killed.

The inclusion of Ned Low is interesting. He was a real pirate with a horrific reputation but he became a pirate much later in 1722 and as such probably never met any of the other historical characters used in the show. Low was actually known to be respectful toward women (while also being happy to torture a man to death) so probably would not have acted toward Eleanor as the fictional version of him does.

In my opinion, Flint is blinded by his hatred of Vane. He's a good character, but boy do I want to smack Flint upside the head now and then. I mean, yes, Vane can be a problem, but worse sh*t has been hinted and you'd think Flint would be smart enough to read the room, so to speak. His obsession with Vane is a distraction.

I mean Vane already told Eleanor that he could rob Flint of the Gold so Flint's concern isn't unwarranted, he just predicted what Vane was plotting. If Vane wasn't in that Fort I doubt Flint would care about him. In actuality Vane has been more concerned about Flint since season 1. He discussed with Eleanor her favoritism towards Flint and giving his crew more prizes than Vanes. And then he tried to remove Flint as Captain by plotting with Singleton. Honestly Vane's been acting like the jealous bf for some time now.

Disagree. Vane has already hinted at stealing the gold from Flint. Flint read Vane like a book and predicted as much. It would be too much a risk to retrieve the gold (and probably lose more men) just for Vane to hold them to ransom

I respectfully disagree. I think Vane is more obsessed with Flint than Flint with Vane. Vane was the one scheming in season 1 to oust Flint from his ship because he resented Eleanor's working relationship with Flint. Flint pretty much doesn't care what Vane is doing until it directly affects him, which Vane in the fort does.
